'Gender reveal' without blue or pink

Our reception aged daughter has seen a 'gender reveal' party with balloons and is excited to find out the sex of the baby with a party. We're not doing the whole party reveal, especially as she's of the age where we're having to remind her that blue isn't just for boys and pink isn't just for girls.

Regardless, we do want to include her and surprise her with something so has anyone seen any fun little ways of sharing the sex of the baby without using blue/pink?

How about a present of her own (anatomically correct) baby doll to look after? Boy or girl baby as appropriate.

Or a book about a baby brother/sister.

If you know the name, you could do something around that instead?

If the balloons are key for her, and she can read a little ... Have 5 balloons. A couple have sweets inside, some have little letters inside (like small wooden ones, fridge magnets, Scrabble tiles). She collects the letters to spell out 'girl' or 'boy'. Puts lots of attention on her too :)

I would probably steer clear of anything relating to the name unless you’re happy for everyone to know it before baby arrives - it’s a big responsibility to tell a reception aged child the baby’s name and then keep it quiet for 4 - 5 months!

She wants to eat cake and pop balloons with confetti and have everyone happy and excited- do that and have rainbow, or pink and blue, or gold confetti. Then just tell her it's a boy/girl and they can have any colour they like.

Why do people do this “reveal” thing? Can’t anybody wait for the lovely surprise when the baby arrives? Do you tell your DC what’s in their Christmas present a few months in advance too?
It's no more of a surprise at 40 weeks in the delivery room than it is at 20 weeks in the scan room. And how much of a surprise can it ever really be, seeing as it's only going to go one of two ways?

Personally I found out early because it helped me to bond with the pregnancy, which was difficult after previous loss.

There's no right or wrong way to do this - I don't understand why it brings out this level of judgement.

Yes, or they could just say "the baby is a boy/ girl"

@Echobelly

I think if DD wants it doing something not using pink/blue is nice - above suggestions all good. Something using a boy doll or a girl doll maybe?
That's a good idea. Get a boy/ girl doll, put a white sleepsuit on it.

There is some miserable cows on Mumsnet. Who cares if someone wants to find out the sex and then do a reveal ? Why do you think you have any right to give your opinion on it ?! Just carry on living your perfect un-American life and leave others alone

Yes!

If you want to have a whinge about gender reveals do a thread on AIBU and snip away to your heart's content. This was a thread about someone wanting to do something for her daughter.

A stuffed toy of an animal that is different depending on if it is male or female: lion/lioness, hen/cockerel, a drake/duck mallard, a male/female Mandril (I've given up looking for the technical terms), pheasant, orangutan, elephant seal etc.
