Partner says I am overreacting 🙄 however just found dried red blood in my underwear. I’ve had period pains on and off for 2 weeks. Has anyone had similar to this and could this be the start of labour?

Is baby moving well ?
If I were you I’d be ringing for advice, they wanted to see me when this happened.

ATeddybearshortofaPicnic · 24/03/2022 15:38

OP, ring your midwife and ask her about it. Bleeding and cramps could mean labour is starting or it could be nothing to worry about. Unless your husband is an OBGYN or a midwife himself then ignore his opinion and get some actual qualified advice.

Sunshine1996 · 24/03/2022 15:46

Thank you for the replies! Spoke to triage who said they’d like to see me. Feel like I’m being stupid because I haven’t had anymore other than a little bit of spotting but I think with the cramps it’s just made me paranoid. Haven’t had intercourse so not related to that

And baby is still kicking away which is really good!

I had similar with my first but I was 40+1
This was 10pm as I was going to bed
Called in, they wanted to see me to check so I arrived at 11pm and I was examined at 1am - they said they'd keep me in but my cervix was closed and not looking like I was in labour but because it was blood they'd keep me in

9am my waters went and she was born at 2pm
X

Always worth popping in for monitoring to be on the safe side OP. hope your there now and all is well Smile

GeneLovesJezebel · 24/03/2022 21:48

Hope you are both ok, my bleeding was the start of Labour 🤞🏻

Sunshine1996 · 25/03/2022 06:31

Thank you all for the replies! So glad I went in as turns out I was 1cm and having contractions. I’ve been kept in over night and still having period pain type cramps now, does anyone have any experience of this and did you go on to dilate further?

OP posts:
GeneLovesJezebel · 25/03/2022 06:34

Have they mentioned giving you steroids as you are only 34 weeks ?

Sunshine1996 · 25/03/2022 06:37

Yes they said they’d give me steroids if things ha r progressed, hopefully getting checked over later as I feel like I could be dilating further as the period pain is quite regular. Also had cold chills and hot sweats in the night which I’ve heard can be related to labour! Scared but also excited

GeneLovesJezebel · 25/03/2022 06:43

Make sure they know about the regular pains.
Sounds like little one is eager to be here !
Best of luck 🤞🏻

StooOrangeyForCrows · 25/03/2022 06:52

Maybe get the photos taken off now you've had good advice and are in the care of clinicians OP.

Pervs love that sort of thing.

takemeawayyy · 25/03/2022 06:54

I bled a lot too from around that stage but that was due to having kidney stones ? I didn't know this was possible but also didn't help that I was dialating slowly to, natural birth and had no issues
Baby's fine and he's 2 now so I Guess I need stop calling him baby haha
Good luck op xx

Sunshine1996 · 25/03/2022 08:36

Just an update, so according to the monitor I’m having very regular contractions. The midwife seems to think this is caused by an irritable uterus. Because baby is measuring small they said there is a possibility I will have a section or be induced because he may be better off out than in. However until the doctor examines me I have no idea as the contractions could be down to me dilating. Head is all over the place!

Does anyone have any experience of having an irritable uterus? Just so confused right now

Good luck! Sounds like you will be meeting your baby soon. You are in the best place, and they will look after you!

Nikki037297 · 25/03/2022 11:18

I had an irritable uterus and from 32 weeks I contracted constantly it was dreadful I hated it. In the day it would ease but at night from about 6/8pm all the way until early hours it was regular contractions I was exhumed from it all I didn’t go into labour until week 39. They said it would make my labour shorter but it still went on over 12 hours but when I did go into labour I obviously didn’t know because it just felt like what it had been like since week 32. If that’s what it is I’m terribly sorry but your in for a long rough ride

Nikki037297 · 25/03/2022 11:18

I’m sorry I wasn’t exhumed lol I was exhausted!!!

ShowOfHands · 25/03/2022 11:28

You might not be in for a long, rough ride. None of us can predict that.

My friend had an irritable uterus with her third and received excellent care. They wanted her to get to 37 weeks ideally but she delivered at 36 in an induced labour due to growth scans not being ideal. It was her best labour (I was there).

I really do wish you well

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 25/03/2022 18:48

Good luck op I'd be googling like mad if I were you Blush

Sunshine1996 · 25/03/2022 19:07

Still have no idea what is happening! The doctor came to check me and said my cervix was closed 🙄 however the doctor yesterday said I was 1cm.. because there was blood seen during the examination I am being kept in again and going on the monitor to see if there are any further contractions. The pains have subsided however every now and again I get period type cramps but nothing really intense. Just wish I knew what was happening! They will be scanning me tomorrow as baby is small. Was meant to be today but the hospital is so busy it will now be tomorrow.

What you describe is literally my exact birth story! At 34+5, gave birth the next day!! Let me know if you have any questions x

madeleine85 · 25/03/2022 21:58

This happened to me at 31-32 weeks, turns out i was very dehydrated and managed to acccidentally kick start labour which started with the "bloody show" what you seem to have had. They kept me in a few nights until contractions stopped through medical intervention. Ultimately my waters broke 3 weeks later, and through that 3 week period I could feel contractions on/off the whole time. Every day you can keep that little one in there is a blessing in the long term. At 35 weeks we were in the NICU for 3 weeks and it was misery, though she was safe. Rest up, hydrate more than you want to, don't over exercise, and just try to be safe.

Lolalovesmarmite · 25/03/2022 22:41

I had an irritable uterus with my DD. I ended up in hospital with contractions quite a few times and at one point was given steroids in preparation for a possible early delivery because she was measuring small. After all the fuss, she stayed put until 38 weeks when I was induced. Stay well hydrated - dehydration always bought on contractions and pain for me.

@Sunshine1996

Thank you all for the replies! So glad I went in as turns out I was 1cm and having contractions. I’ve been kept in over night and still having period pain type cramps now, does anyone have any experience of this and did you go on to dilate further?
Had an abruption at 29 weeks (much more blood than in your photo, a good cupful of bright red blood), contractions overnight but luckily cervix stayed shut and the contractions stopped. I also had vasa praevia so was kept in until 36 weeks when I had a c-section, but I didn’t have any further contractions in that time, not even Braxton Hicks.

I was told by the midwives that bleeding irritates the uterus and can cause contractions. Not an obstetrician so can’t comment on how true that is.
