Moles in pregnancy- are they ok if they change?

I've got a few moles on me, couple of flat ones and a couple of "bobbly" ones. One of the flat ones is really really itchy and I was wondering if this is something I should get checked out? I'm 14 wks pg with dc2.

I remember in my first pregnancy that I got quite a few skin tags, which I know were harmless, but does anyone know if pre-existing moles are likely to change?

Embarrassingly the mole in question is right at the top of my bum crack

IIRC itchy moles need to be checked out.

Moles can get darker as your pigmentation changes (same thing that causes linea nigra on your tummy etc), and larger if your skin stretches. Not sure about itchiness, unless all the skin around it is itchy too. If it is just the mole I would ask the GP next time you see them.

I've got an itchy mole too minkus (on my back not my bum!)

It looks the same as before as far as I can see, so I was just going to mention it to doc next time I go - if it is still itchy then. I'm 14 weeks too, so that does seem a coincidence.

Thanks for replies, will mention it to dr when I next see him.

Thanks for link NAB3, I'd not seen netdoctor before this- it looks useful for the future.

Hi Minkus

I went to the doctor with 4 moles (when 7 weeks pg) that had slightly changed and was referred to a specialist dermatologist.

Unfortunately I need to have them removed using local anesthetic. They told me this will need to wait until after week 12 of the pregnancy.

I asked if it could wait until after the pregnancy but was told this isn't advised as if they do turn out to be cancerous (which isn't expected) this could pass to the baby.

I wish I'd gone earlier and felt better when the doctor checked these and did a full body mole check. One of mine is awkwardly under the breast rubbed by my bra

I hope this helps. Let me know how you get on.
