Hi all,
Will try to make this as short as I can, I'm not really sure what I'm after here, I know no-one can give me an answer, maybe just similar experiences or outcomes for anyone that's had the same. Just trying to wrap my head around all the possibilities.
2 weeks Friday I have a C-section scheduled, so it all feels real now, at my 20 week scan, I was referred to fetal medicine for a scan - the sonographer stated that one of the femurs was measuring short. After a stressful 48 hours, wondering what could be wrong, we had our scan. They stated that both arms and legs were measuring behind but no abnormalities could be seen with any other part of our baby (brain, lungs, kidneys, heart etc all fine) they said it could be constitutional (the baby will just be small), a placental issue or a genetic issue with baby. They offered us an amniocentesis or an NIPT test. We were too afraid of the risk of miscarriage for the amniocentesis so we paid for an NIPT. Our NHS screening had already come back low risk, our NIPT then came back as 1 in 100,000 for Edwards, patau and Down syndrome.
We have continued to have a scan every 2 weeks to monitor growth, same story each time - abdomen and skull measuring bang on average and legs and arms behind (we are talking like 4-5 weeks behind). Organs all looking fine each time too. Our notes state 'short long bones'. We have been told each time that best case - the baby just has small arms and legs, worst case it could be a form of skeletal dysplasia but they won't know either way till baby comes out in two weeks time.
I just don't know what to expect.... I don't know what our odds are really, I keep hoping that nothing at all is wrong and the baby just has small arms and legs, or if it's skeletal dysplasia I don't really know what that means for my baby, I then panic maybe it's something else altogether and the other signs on the scans have just been missed.
Sorry for a long one - anyone else with short long bones experiences or outcomes?
Thanks for reading all
