Hi - FTM here & newbie to Mumsnet!

I was just wondering if anyone has recently given birth at Nottingham City Hospital & if they would be happy to share their experiences?

I'm due to give birth there in May but with all the news about the ongoing issues with the trust its making me abit nervous!!! Smile

My last experience was in 2014 so not that recent and may have changed with covid. Overall it was fine, we were in for 3 days post birth as my baby needed antibiotics via IV so just we were mainly relieved that he was ok and being treated.

My main issue at Nottingham City was that I was refused epidural and my first midwife did not believe I was in active labour, when I finally convinced her she was “yes there’s the head”… well yes that what I’ve been saying!

Saying that the midwife I had post birth on the labour ward (after the shift change) was lovely.

The post natal ward was very hot, stuffy and noisy so come prepared! It’s a busy hospital with not quite enough staff, however when there is a problem (as there was with my son post birth) they do swing into action.

All the best.

Had DS there in 2018 and the care we received in labour and birth was outstanding, he had the cord round his neck and was a forceps delivery. Labour felt relaxed (as much as it can be!) and well monitored, when it was time to get him out a team appeared from nowhere and he was out in seconds yet I still felt very involved. It was a very positive experience from my point of view.

The postnatal ward however was awful, understaffed with no time for the anyone but the most serious cases (why keep people in and tell them they need care if no care is possible?) After we were discharged we had wonderful community midwife support that addressed the issues we were kept in for. If we have another I would opt for QMC and hope it's better.

Like PP, when the chips were down and we really needed it they were fantastic though, never for a second felt things weren't under control.

I also gave birth via c-section in 2014 to my third DC at Nottm City
The care was outstanding during the delivery and afterwards.
We were in for over a week, first DS with jaundice and infection requiring IV antibiotics, then me with an infection and allergic reaction, then DS with another issue. We were moved to a sideroom pretty quickly, after I had a breakdown due to the noise and chaos in the postnatal ward, and I couldn't have asked for more - the staff were amazing, we were well cared-for, looked-after and went home happy and healthy.
