What happens if you have covid before birth?

Due in the next few weeks and getting very concerned about the possibility of contracting covid before going into hospital. There are loads of cases at ds school and I've been in contact with at least 3 people this week who have gone onto test positive.

What would be the protocol if I had covid while in labour? Would I be able to have dh with me? What if I was really poorly with it? I'm triple jabbed but haven't had it yet to my knowledge.

There's also a possibility I may be having a section so would that get postponed if I did test positive? There just seems to be so much of it around again at the moment and I'm really worried!

Hi OP,

I was booked for induction at 38 weeks but caught covid just before (so unlucky as it was the day before starting isolation in preparation!).

Firstly, my GP team supported me with medication and daily phone calls to check how I was feeling. I had blood thinner injections, BP and SATs machine to use daily at home.

I should add, I was a high risk pregnancy due to gestational hypertension and a high BMI.

Hospital postponed my induction and said that they wouldn't have me in until I was negative or reached 40 weeks (as I wasn't allowed to pass 40).

During that time, I was worried about reduced movement, so did end up going in to the assessment unit. I phoned ahead and they had private rooms for covid patients with additional PPE.

My partner was told he would be allowed to be present for birth whether I was still positive or not; just as long as he was negative.

We desperately distanced in our own home during that week and SOME how, he didn't catch it. Not that the hospital checked - they didn't LFT him until 2 days after birth (after 4 days of induction).

I felt like I had a cold and had ZERO energy. I was lucky in that I had just started mat leave so could legitimately sit on the sofa and rest all day.

Try not to worry as ultimately, it won't affect baby at all. If anything, it'll give them some super strong antibodies!

Thank you for replying and hope you feel better now! It does sound like a massive headache, especially having to isolate beforehand and trying to make sure dh doesn't get it too.

It seems to be everywhere at the moment and with weeks to go I know it'll be just my luck to pick it up right before labour. I haven't got a c section date scheduled yet as we are waiting on one final growth scan so we will see what happens.
