Sometimes it's hard, but sometimes it's easy. Its say not to overthink it unless you run into problems.

I actually didn't want to breastfeed, but half heartedly gave mixed feeding a go, baby rejected bottles from birth and I was effectively forced to EBF. So I am someone who actively tried not to EBF, who tried to jeopardize it; and failed!

So in those first few days, I was using formula all over there place, on one occasion on day 3 I didn't bother with boob for an 8hr period because I was out for the day and wanted to use bottles. I read nothing on technique.

I ended up breastfeeding for nearly 3 years (I never enjoyed it, but I enjoyed seeing how happy it made her so continued until she self weaned because I'm soft).

So my tip would just be too shove baby's open mouth on your nipple, and not to think much more on than that!

And if breastfeeding was destined to work for you, giving the odd formula etc at the beginning is unlikely to be fatal to it. If it doesn't work, it won't be because they were given that bottle of formula, so don't go too hard on yourself.

My tip is to try "laid back" breastfeeding - if you look up that or biological nurturing you'll find the info - can work better than the shoving nipple in mouth technique (although this worked for me too)

Also sidelying breastfeeding where you sleep and breastfeed at the same time is amazing...

I think it's worth doing an antenatal course on breastfeeding - La Leche League offers an online one or look up what's local

When I had my DS the midwives and ward staff were all on hand to support and help with breastfeeding. My HV was a BF specialist too so that helped once I left hospital. Don't be afraid to ask!
