Baby Swaddles

Hi all!

I am due in July with a little baby boy :) I already have a beautiful DD. DD was born in 2018 and weighed five and a half lbs so a small baby! I'm having extra growth scans this time due to having a small baby but I expect I just grow them small as I was only 5lb 4oz and my partner was 6lb when we were born.

I've been looking at baby swaddles I can buy but they all seem to start from 7lb up and wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations for ones that are suitable for a smaller baby?
I want a swaddle that is ready made (if that makes sense!) As in I don't want to use a blanket to swaddle as I'm too nervous I would do it wrong and would rather just buy a Velcro or popper one.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated! :)

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for swaddle recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best swaddles page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

Congratulations! I'm due in July too and starting to get excited now!

I've gotten two of these from Mori: babymori.com/products/newborn-swaddle-bag?variant=31935726288982

I liked the versatility of the arms out option and they're apparently 'all seasons.' I think they're suitable from 5lbs, and they're definitely teeny. Not cheap new but you can get them 2nd hand on eBay/Vinted etc.

I also got one of these ergopouch swaddles in 0.2 tog in case we have another nutty heatwave this summer. Also with an arms out option. You can choose sizes with these: www.ergopouch.co.uk/cocoon-swaddle-bag-0-2-tog-berries

Oooo thank you! I will take a look at these :)

Congratulations! Do you know if it's a DD or DS?

Will you be swaddling from birth or waiting a few weeks? :)

We currently use this one. You can have the arms closed, open small or open large. We moved my little one to this one when she was just over 5lbs. amazon.co.uk/dp/B0831QMHBS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_QVPSF45TA0J5V6PPPH55?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1]]

When she was under 5lbs (4lb 4 at her lowest) we had this one. Its pure swaddle and she got a bit annoyed later on as she hated her arms in. Tech it's from 5lbs but she couldn't get her head through the whole so figured it was safe even when she was smaller

@Mads96 I'm having a little girl. Grin I just have a feeling she'll be on the small side too. I'm small at 5ft, size 6-8 normally, but my partner is 6'2, so it's anyone's guess really though!

I think I'll swaddle from birth and see how we get on. Hopefully if it's all she knows from night one I'll get my money's worth out of these bags! Wink I'm a bit afraid of blankets too.

How about you? Do you know the sex of the baby yet?

We used the tommee tippee easy swaddles, they can be used from 5lbs.
