Low Paap A

16 weeks and just found out I've low Paap A and to take aspirin on a nightly basis. I am already on blood thinning injections throughout my pregnancy due to previous DVT.

I'm a first time expecting parent and the worry and anxiety of the effects to my unborn child from the Paap A is unsettling to me.

Has anyone else experienced this and can give any words or wisdom or advice 🙂

I had this in my second pregnancy and was told the risk was low birth weight and higher likelihood of a premature baby due to the placenta not functioning as well. My baby was born the day before his due date weighing 7Ib 11oz perfectly healthy. Obviously every pregnancy is different but you should have growth scans to ensure your baby is growing from 28 weeks if you have low Papp-a?

Aw I'm glad to hear your baby is healthy.
They've mentioned more scans around 28 and 32 if I remember correctly. Have midwife for 16week app on Tuesday so can discuss more with her then. Just been very anxious since finding out Friday and over thinking everything.

I had low Papp A with my first pregnancy, currently pregnant with my second but not yet at the point for nhs screening but wondering if I'll be low Papp A again.

I had regular scans through my pregnancy because of the low Papp A and I did give birth a little early (at 35+4) and my son was small at under 5lbs but perfectly healthy. I'll add that I'm 5ft 2 and my husband is 5ft 8 so I wasn't expecting a big baby!

I understand that the majority of women with low Papp A have a completely normal pregnancy. I don't think it's particularly well understood as a marker and so NHS are cautious.

Hi!

I was told I had low Papp-A after my 12 week appointment and like you I was really worried as it's my first pregnancy and I'd never heard of it before!

The midwives I've spoken to have all told me that the vast majority of the time growth and placenta function are normal but because there's a correlation they always keep a closer eye just incase.

I'm now 35 weeks and so far I've had extra growth scans at 28, 32 weeks and my next scan is 36 weeks. Straight after each scan, I have a midwife appointment and the baby's measurements are plotted on a growth chart then reviewed by my consultant. My baby has been growing perfectly on around 60th centile throughout and I've had no issues whatsoever.

Thankyou everyone! So reassuring to hear that those with Paap A are having/had healthy pregnancies and knowing what's to come next as I currently haven't been told much atall and researching everything.

Thank you again 🥰
