Hi everyone,
Been for a private 18 week gender scan today and got told they are concerned on the amount of fluid around the baby and that the baby was all curled up and couldn't get them to move. I think they put it down something called oligohydramnios.
I've been referred to a specialist and waiting to hear back from them sometime next week to get things checked out.
I'm really am scared and was not expecting this at all and is a massive upsetting shock, I've read up that early this on it could cause misscarriges still births etc.
Has anyone had this before and everything been okay? Or just something so I have a feeling on what to expect?

Hi all
Thought I give an update. On the 22nd June I had an emergency c section due to placenta abruption at 32 weeks and gave birth to baby boy weighing 4lb 5. Baby boy came out with a little cry which doctors wasn't expecting and was put on a cpap machine which provides air to the lungs. Then later put on a breathing ventilater and is in the nicu.
Over the last 2 weeks hes come off the breathing ventilater back onto the cpap and then onto a tube down nose with a low flow of air which is brilliant. He is our little fighter and miracle and is proving the doctors wrong who told me to terminate from the very beginning. Still a long journey ahead but all in the right direction so far. 🙏👶🌻

Wow he really is a miracle. I'm so happy to hear that although traumatic, he is here and fighting and you are too. I pray that he gets stronger every day and you are so strong for believing in him. Take good care of yourself and update if you feel like doing so about how things are progressing. Blessings to you both 💙

Hi Everyone, I’m so happy to come across this thread especially with it being recent ish post. Im 18 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding pretty much throughout my pregnancy which started around the 11th week and hasn’t really stopped since 😔 Yesterday I had to go in for a detailed scan as they detected a raised AFP hormone in my blood tests and suspected there could be a problem with baby’s spine as the hormone is linked to spina bifida. I was relieved to find out baby is developing well and spine and brain are ok, however they said there isn’t enough fluid around the baby and they believe it is due to ‘my placenta playing up’ which is where they think the bleeding has been coming from. I have been put on to consultant led care and need to be scanned fortnightly. But I’m just so worried now and can’t stop thinking about it. Every time I wipe there is still blood and I don’t know whether I’m loosing anymore fluid or not. I’ve searched high and low on the internet on how I can improve it but it just seems there’s nothing I can do really 😔 apart from wait and hope every two weeks things improve. I’m really sorry to hear the unfortunate outcomes of some on this post 😔 but am also relieved to see some positive, especially OP story! Has anyone been in my situation with the placenta playing up (docs words) and had a positive outcome? Would really love to hear anyone else’s updates who were in the same situation. Xx

Hey, just wondered what your outcome was? I've had a lot of bleeding and finally had a scan which has shown very low fluid around baby. I'm obviously very worried, just trying to find any positive stories? x
