When a friend was in hospital having had her DD, a young girl in the bed next who had just had a boy said "What do you think of the name Lucifer cos I want to call him that but someone said it means something else?" ! .

VictorianSqualor · 05/01/2008 21:48

I knew someone whose child was called lucifer as well and someone who liked the nickname Lexi so called their DD lexus, like the car, afetr mishearing someone say it was short for Alexis

BettySpaghetti · 05/01/2008 22:05

They really called him/her Lucifer ??

You would think someone, somewhere would have the guts to stop them wouldn't you? That someone would sit them down and talk them through the implications?

IIRC my friend did explain to this girl why she personally thought it wasn't a good idea

Jojay · 05/01/2008 22:07

Honestly? - ridiculous

Heated · 05/01/2008 22:08

Or just be a bit kr8tiv and spell it Lucyfur.

Or how about Methusular? Lolita? Judas?

Elizabetth · 05/01/2008 22:10

It's like all those poor girls/women called Candida.

gigglewitch · 05/01/2008 22:11

Billious... I think 'sick' for short would be better?
my dads aunt and uncle were called Fanny and Willy tho so i have a family tree to die for (of embarrassment, obv )

RibenaBerry · 06/01/2008 15:03

On the 'Lucifer' thread, a friend of mine had a child in her class called 'Satan'. I think it was pronounced Sa-tan, rather than Say-tan, IYSWIM.

Bilious LOL isn't that stomach fluid or something, sorry but can't be arsed reading anymore.

Was 'Pestilence' taken by an early sibling then?

How about 'Scrofulous', or perhaps 'Pendulous'?

Bouncingturtle · 06/01/2008 15:25

Hmm is it too late to change Daniel's name to Beelzebub . We could call him Bubba for short...

belgo · 06/01/2008 15:27

Megglevache - great name, Billy for short is lovely

Flllightattendant · 06/01/2008 15:30

I had one of those half asleep thought processes one night, in which I had a 'revelation' that Celery would be a great name for a girl.

WTF???

BettySpaghetti · 06/01/2008 15:31

I always fancied having twins and calling them syphilis and gonorrhea

belgo · 06/01/2008 15:33

Lol at Celery.

Lochia is so pretty for a girl...

belgo · 06/01/2008 15:34

and syphilis and gonorrhea

LazyLinePainterJane · 06/01/2008 15:37

as in Ron Weasley?

LunarSea · 06/01/2008 16:47

I came across a real life Jezebel last year. Nice name, if it wasn't for the unfortunate associations, which (very young) mum didn't seem to be aware of.

You're kidding ... i hope

whomovedmychocolate · 06/01/2008 19:31

Actually Belgo Lochia does have a sort of ring to it. Sort of celtic-y

Or for a boy, how about Kaput?

Bluestocking · 06/01/2008 19:44

I had a mature student friend at college whose son was called Judas - needless to say after the first thrill of shocking the grandparents had worn off, he and his wife reverted to using the child's second (perfectly ordinary) name.
