15weeks, new job, when to tell of pregnancy

I started a new job this week, that I applied for and accepted before I knew our latest round of fertility treatment had worked.

I'm not sure when I should tell my new line manager I'm pregnant though.

I'm enjoying having some time to settle into the role, and having new colleagues glad to have me joining them, that I don't really want to burst the bubble that I'll hopefully be going off on maternity leave later in the year. I do feel I should let them know though, as I'll be working alongside a colleague who needs to essentially split half her workload with me, so decisions need to be made about what exactly I'm taking on.

I know I don't legally need to tell them yet, but I think I'd feel bad not telling line manager sooner rather than later.

Anyone else started a new job mid-pregnancy with any experience?

I started a new job at 13 weeks, wasn't pregnant when I interviewed. I told my line manager before starting just to give them a heads up, but colleagues weren't aware until after my 20 week scan. You are entitled to risk assessment and other protections when pregnant, but your employer needs to be aware in order to provide these :)

@PigeonPigPie Thats interesting you told line manager before you started. How was their reaction? I'm working from home so no issues with risk assessment or any other protection issues

@2mumlife They just said congrats! Never had any negative comments about it. Am on mat leave now Smile

@PigeonPigPie Thanks for sharing your experience. I told my immediate line manager, and then the big boss above her who had interviewed me and also oversees my role yesterday. They were both very nice about things, said congratulations (one actually seemed excited as she said they haven't had many babies at all in the team the last few years), and thanked me for letting them know. It was also useful to begin to discuss initial thoughts on leave, and some practicalities about mat leave interupting probation and a few other questions they didn't know the answers to and will start to check with HR. I feel a lot happier now with them knowing.
