Big Bump, Average/Small Baby

unknownscot · 15/03/2022 18:35

Hi

I'm 25+5weeks and my bump is measuring 29 weeks, however baby is only at 40th percentile.

I've to get booked in for growth scans, which I'm fine about.

My concern is, that everything I read is to do with big bump/big baby.

Anything with big bump/smaller(average) baby seems to be a bit more of a concern.

Has anyone else been in this position? How did things turn out?

Thanks
X

I've been measuring 4-6 weeks ahead and finally got an appointment with a consultant this week who doesn't think i'm having a huge baby after all even though my bump is absolutely huge now and my waters are measuring as normal. How is your BMI? She did comment that those with a higher BMI will measure larger

My BMI is normal, 25.

How do they test for extra amniotic fluid? X

The growth scans will pick up if there is excess amniotic fluid on the ultrasound.
I'm 31 weeks and also measuring big (my belly) baby is average around 40/50th centile so similar to you. I just keep having repeat growth scans to check on fluid volume

Thanks for replying.

That's good to hear. So effectively everything seems normal and healthy, just a big bump? X

@unknownscot yes initial tests show no issues (excess amniotic fluid can suggest gestational diabetes, infection with baby or issues with their swallowing so not swallowing the fluid) but more than half the time there's no cause, they'll just keep an eye on it

I was massive, it was 8 years ago now so not as accurate as today, I was measuring 42w when I gave birth. Out came a tiny 7”2 baby!! I was so convinced he would be big I didn’t buy or ask did renew born clothes! He looked so silly in his clothes as he was so tiny for them!

I apparently had a giant placenta so perhaps that’s what it was.

Oh I am also a petite 5 foot 2! I swear the mother care staff was following me around with a mop and bucket at 35 weeks 😂

I had bigger bumps and average size babies. Im petite and have a small torso and baby was all at the front. Nowhere else for it to go. So I think it's just how you carry sometimes?
