I am very lucky in that I am not (and have never) been one of those mothers to be who throws up all day. But.... I do feel really really nauseous and unwell all day this time. Any suggestions? I am not looking forward to coping with ds and dd while feeling like this for the next 6 weeks or whatever it turns out to be...

I found that eating all the time was the only thing that kept it at bay - sounds counter-intuitive but it really helped.

I nibbled cream crackers all day and also sipped ginger ale. Ginger is a good anti-sickness remedy (works for car sickness too). Some people swear by starting the day with a ginger biscuit in bed but I found them too sweet before I'd brushed my teeth!

Ginger-ale worked for me. So did going back to sleep

I got worse the more i had and in the end the thing that made me worse was tiredness. Hence feeling worse with more lo's to look after. The only thing that helped was really resting and going to bed really early. And keep eating little and often to keep your blood sugar levels up.I used to eat things like nuts, not peanuts, raisins etc.

snap paula!

Oh and try to avoid triggers. For me that was brushing my teeth (I had to change toothpaste) and putting out catfood. And I had to change my route to work so I didn't pass a very smelly butchers shop.

Failing that carry a plastic bag everywhere, just for the reassurance. There is nothing like realising you have nothing to be sick into to make you feel really ill...

crystallised ginger very good

also sniffing spearmint essential oil

paulaplumpbottom · 05/01/2008 14:21

Me Youngvisitor, Brushing my teeth is the only thing that is still making me sick. The brand doen't seem to matter

not suggesting for one minute you need help with the sicknes! Nonetheless the self help tips are great for all.

I found those baking soda herbal toothpastes slightly less nauseating - I think the problem is a combination of the strong mint flavour of the aquafresh-type pastes and all that poking about at the back of the throat.

But mainly I just brushed really skimpily and then threw up straight after. No coincidence that I had my first ever filling while pregnant with DS...

paulaplumpbottom · 05/01/2008 14:38

I didn't like the smell

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 05/01/2008 18:20

Some health food shops sell toothpaste with aniseedy falvours etc

The mint makes you salivate mroe which is always a bad idea if you have MS, as is the poking around with a toothbrush bit. A simple solution can be to pop a clean flannel over your index finger, dip in mouthwash (wider variety of flavours) and brush with the flannel, seems to help some women.

I found that ginger helped - ginger biscuits, ginger teas, crystallized ginger etc - but it didn't stop it entirely.

MrsBadger · 05/01/2008 19:12

as TheYoungVisiter I found eating constantly helped - rich tea fingers worked for me.

Also the ginger and lemongrass cordial by Bottlegreen (made either with hot or icy-cold water) got sugar into me when nothing else could

sea sickness bands really do work. You can get them from tesco for £6 !

I was sick all day everyday while pregnancy with my daughter but this time i still feel a bit icky but with the bands on its much more barable.. when i take them off though i feel vile.

I wish i'd known about them the first time round.

PetitFilou1 · 07/01/2008 10:40

Thanks everyone. Can't wait to feel like I don't have a perpetual hangover anymore...

I found Twinings fennel and mint tea was amazing. I used to have a cup every time I felt queasy and it would go off for a few hours. Was even drinking it at 3 am because I used to wake up int he night feeling sick. Grim
