I don’t understand how you can gain 1lb per week?

This might be one of those threads I look back on in two months and laugh… but at 17 weeks I don’t understand where 1lb per week weight gain is supposed to go? I know weight gain is about more than the baby - fluid, blood etc. But even the placenta only weighs 1lb by the end! It seems excessive to me, but I don’t know whether putting on pure fat is important to help establish breast feeding?

Because it's not simply a free-floating baby, is it? Grin

It's not from the start weight gain is meant to be from around the 2nd trimester.
I lost a 0.5kg between the initial midwife appointment (10 weeks) & my 16 week one.
I then put on 3kg from then to my 20wk scan! I was quite shocked but the healthy eating team said it was about right.
I'll find out how much if put on in the last 5 weeks next Sunday as I'll weigh myself the day before my next healthy eating team call.

I could still hide my bump at 20 weeks - people at work thought I'd just had my 12 week scan. But a some of my jeans/trousers were getting tight & now im definitely in maternity jeans & its obvious in a t-shirt (24 weeks tomorrow)
