My dentist booked me in for some treatment (2 fillings) but at a special dentists for nervous patients where they knock you out but since the app. I am now pregnant. I have read through the leaflet about all the types of sedation and the warnings and none say about being pregnant, and I am sure I read on here before dental X rays are ok also. This happened last time and they turned me away when they asked if I could be pregnant in the X ray room so I ended up leaving my tooth throughout pregnancy which was agony then had my ham handed dentist take 3 hours to do a root canal, so I want the filling done asap this time, but if I can avoid it not the regular way. Do dentists do Xrays usually when pregnant? And do the dental treatment with sedation? It says one of the options is just gas and air, which you have in labour anyway so I can't see the harm. Can you have a GA (my first choice) though when pregnant?

Can you just have a local anaesthetic? Not sure about the x -ray thing - would say not but could be wrong.

If you just having normal fillings you shouldnt need xrays, unless you having root fillings. Most dentists will use a lead apron to cover your tummy if you preg. Not to sure about sedation, my friend had an operation in the early weeks of preg under GA and her baby fine. But I think it is probably the case that if is not serious they will not do it as there is probably risks. But you best ringing and seeing

I really can't handle Locals in my mouth, I just panic. I really try hard (like last time) but I end up jumping all over the place but it's sort of out of my control. DH had to hold me down last time and it was horrific, and I got the shakes. SHe referred me straight this time so I don't think she wanted to go through that all again! I have no idea why they wanted to X ray me last time, I went along for a bog standard filling - maybe they check it's all you need while they are there?

Dentists can and do x-ray when you are pregnant. Dental x-rays give a very low dose of radiation which is aimed only at your head, and they can put a lead apron over the baby. I know this because my sister did a lot of research on this point - she is a surgeon who works with x-rays a lot and continued to do so throughout her pregnancies once she had established that it was safe.

I have no idea re sedation, but I am very nervous and have an understanding dentist who explains everything before pouncing on me with a needle, numbs my gums even before sticking in the needle, lets me choose the music etc. Actually, last time I did not even notice the local going in. I have to say that a GA for a couple of fillings sounds OTT even if you are extremely scared. I think I would need to be very sure there could be no adverse effects from a GA before having one for dental treatment. Hope it goes ok.

Hmmm... they should do it then. I will probably just go for gas and air sedation which must be safe in pregnancy. I won't bother cancelling then, hopefully they don't turn me away again silly buggers.
