Thrush - pessaries?

Anyone taken a pessary for thrush in pregnancy? I know I’ve definitely got thrush as I suffer with it regularly when not pregnant, but never as bad as this :( the skin around my vagina is bleeding it’s that irritated and it’s so sore and uncomfortable. I’ve tried the canesten cream which helps soothe it but doesn’t clear it up.
I asked the pharmacist who told me to contact my midwife, which I did but she hasn’t replied to my voicemail I left yesterday and it’s now the weekend so won’t hear anything until next week.
I have read that pessaries are safe in pregnancy but my worry is that I’ve had spotting on and off throughout the pregnancy and I’m scared about sparking it off again. But at the same time I need something for it asap.
Anyone used one early on in pregnancy?
I’m 12 weeks and this is my second pregnancy, I suffered badly with it in my first pregnancy and look pessaries but never had any spotting with my first!

You can use the pessary but shouldn't use the applicator and just insert with fingers instead.

Hope it clears up soon

Thank you @tiredmummy198 x

No worries, I had recurrent utis in pregnancy treated with antibiotics which then caused thrush and used the pessary each time and had no issues Smile

Absolutely fine to use the pessaries - if the thrush is that bad better to avoid the one-dose pessary and get a longer course....my gyn always prescribes a 6 day pessary course with cream.

Call the gp. I had a nightmare with my GP, refused to prescribe canesten. 3 different pharmacists wouldn't let me buy it as I'm pregnant. I called up the doctors and spoke to another gp who said the first gp was wrong and it needs to be prescribed on the nhs.

Or just say you're not pregnant if they ask and if your bump isn't obvious? Or send DP/DH/friend to get some?

Kaw10 · 12/03/2022 19:35

@Moonshine160 just read your post again, you're only 12 weeks, just keep your coat on to hide anything if you're showing at all, and if they ask you if you're pregnant, say no Wink Ridiculous that you have to suffer when it's fine to use in pregnancy!

SickAndTiredAgain · 12/03/2022 19:38

I have thrush now and the GP prescribed me a 7 day course of pessaries yesterday. I’m just not meant to use the applicator but otherwise it’s fine.

You can buy it of course, but in pregnancy it can take longer to clear and so it might be expensive to buy several canesten ones. You could buy one while you wait to speak to a dr though.

Thanks everyone :) I’ll get a pessary tomorrow and ring the GP next week if it doesn’t stay away. Which I suspect it won’t, I had it on and off all through my first pregnancy!

@Moonshine160

I was spotting (brown) last Saturday and was seen by a midwife. She gave me a pessary (500mg) one off dose plus cream. I don't have any symptoms at all aside from the spotting but I'm on the cream as well anyway.

This morning I had pink spotting. Getting anxious again due to spotting from my last 2 miscarriages.

How are you getting on? x
