Hi so I’m probably freaking out over nothing but with a history of miscarriages I’m worried I may of done something wrong. My baby toe was really sore and stiff so I rubbed it then remembered an article I’d read that says that rubbing your baby toes in pregnancy can cause a miscarriage I have PAAP A and Protein c Deficiency so already on aspirin and Clexane. Does this mean I’m going to loose our baby or is she going to be okay? I’m 18 weeks pregnant ConfusedConfusedBlush

I’m sorry you’re feeling anxious OP.

Why and how would rubbing your feet or toes cause a miscarriage? I really can’t understand this at all. I love a foot rub now I’m pregnant!

solbunny · 10/03/2022 23:17

I really, really wouldn't worry about this. Absolutely nothing will happen because you rubbed your foot - getting a foot rub is a regular demand of most pregnant women what with the achey feet!

Completely understand how easy it is to get het up and worried about stuff like this, but don't let this one add to your worries. Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks

This really won’t harm your baby.

PurpleDaisies · 10/03/2022 23:20

Where on earth did you read that?

Stick to proper sources for your information not google. The nhs is best.

MJW1999 · 10/03/2022 23:24

I did too but it was on an article I read online and then it popped up again saying it can cause contractions and miscarriages probably just scare tactics but after numerous losses and never getting this far before I panic Blush thank you for your kind words I do need to stop panicking but it’s hard to not worry I think I need to stick to using My midwife consultant MN and NHS and not read any other articles

@MJW1999 I understand, it is a very worrying time but I think that’s for the best. When in doubt ask your midwife, not google. I have to do this because I suffer from intrusive thoughts to do with my health which have got worse during pregnancy. I try to stay off google because it always makes it worse!

If rubbing your baby toes caused miscarriages then there would be widespread advice for pregnant women not to wear shoes/walk! Even if you were using theory like in reflexology the little toe is related to sinuses or ears or something, rather than lower body. The only actual thing I can think of that is vaguely near what you read is that stimulating your nipples significantly to hand express can in some cases cause irritable uterus/contractions (not miscarriage), so expressing is only advised from 36/37 weeks onwards.
Please just focus on genuine advice from your midwife and the NHS website ❤

Right OK I think I know what's going on here. Certain acupressure points can allegedly trigger birth. Rubbing your toe a bit yourself will not have done that. You'd have to be trained in reflexology to get anywhere near the right place and amount of pressure to do that.

If that actually worked, don’t you think the nhs would be using it to induce labour instead of drugs? Confused

Allegedly is the key word there. It’s non scientific nonsense.

Cakecakecheese · 11/03/2022 08:45

Of course yes, if it was an actual proven thing then it would be something pregnant women get told! Maybe I should have been clearer. I was just trying to explain what could have caused the confusion.

I had reflexology and I do believe it helped me but it's highly likely to have been due to it relaxing me or whatever rather than any actual connection to my reproductive organs!

MJW1999 · 17/03/2022 13:49

Thank you everyone the reflexology sounds like what I read. It said the pressure point on your toe triggers it but honestly who knows lol thank you and sorry for being a drama queen I panic and worry about the risks so much

Honestly I think a lot of pregnant women have had at least one 'omg I've hurt my baby' panic. It's completely natural but if it becomes a constant anxiety then a chat with a midwife is needed.
