Hi
Feeling very upset right now, and hoping someone will be able to share some insight or experience please ☹️
I got my BFP at 12 DPO, and am now 4+2. Since I found out I was pregnant I’ve been having cramps and twinges in my stomach but nothing too painful. I remember from DD1 this was quite normal. I’ve also had sore boobs and been feeling sick and super tired - all good signs.
But for the last 2 days I’ve had a sharp shooting pain near my left ovary, sometimes it’s really quite painful and although it comes and goes in strength it’s pretty much constant pain that ranges from dull ache to sharp stabbing pain.
I’m terrified that this is a sign of an ectopic pregnancy, I have no idea why else I would be getting this pain. I do have PCOS so it may be a cyst, but it would be too much of a coincidence to start causing pain as soon as I got my BFP.
I also feel quite dizzy yesterday and today, very lightheaded.
When I was 12 DPO the clear blue digital test read 2-3 weeks which means my HCG was higher than it should have been - is this also a sign of ectopic pregnancy?
This baby is so wanted and I am feeling so helpless and anxious. Please help with any experience or advice.

Hi @Dav87 , sorry that you are worried.

Just wanted to say that I also had the shooting pains you describe between 4 and 6 weeks and it isn't ectopic so don't necessarily think the shooting pains means it's bad news. Do you have any other symptoms such as spotting or shoulder pain?
If the pain gets worse, I would definitely get it checked at EPU (don't want to reassure you so much that you don't!) but I was worried at the time too, and all is fine. I think the cyst after ovulation which helps sustain the pregnancy can cause pains.
If you do go in now, it is unlikely they will be able to see anything on a scan until HCG is over 1000 I think, which for me was about when I was 5.5 weeks, so they may just ask you to monitor it until they should be able to see something.

Hope you are reassured soon and all is well! Thanks

Hi OP. So sorry you're worried.

PP is right. I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. You may have a corpus luteum cyst, which will resolve; it's hard to say, but for now I'd take a deep breath because there's no glaringly obvious signs of ectopic from what you've written. I won't reassure you that it couldn't be, but it's very early days, so it's best to do anything and everything you can to relax until your body gives you more information or you are able to be seen properly by EPU.

I've had an ectopic, and while they're slightly different for everyone, my symptoms were sluggish hcg (faint tests etc to begin with), odd pain, in my thigh weirdly, followed by watery prune-juice like bleeding. I was scanned at around 5.5 weeks - only when my hcg was high enough, like PP mentioned - and that was very, very early for them to see anything. It took three of them to find it. Mine thankfully resolved naturally, without any intervention.

Good luck to you, OP! Treat yourself to something nice during this time. Early pregnancy is anxiety hell! Flowers

Hcg is lower with ectopic mine stayed very low with mine. I didn’t get any cramps what so ever do I knew it wasn’t growing either at all or in the right place, symptoms were non existent. I’m 10 weeks pregnant and in the early days had a constant pain from the side I ovulated from. A cycst forms after ovulation in the ovary. It helps keep the pregnancy going in the early weeks.
Please don’t worry.
High hcg, cramping, pregnancy symptoms.
Sounds all great

I have this... I am 4 weeks and getting mild but constant pain near my right ovary. As well as that, really sick and dizzy. Completely panicked, was up all night convinced I had an ectopic pregnancy.

I went to the GP and he told me it was too early for me to have noticed if it was ectopic, he actually said it was either completely normal signs of early pregnancy or early signs of miscarriage or even could be appendicitis Sad so I have these wildly different options and it's too early to even find out what it could be...

This baby is so wanted. He told me to try not to worry, but it's so hard...

How did you get on OP?

I've just come home from the hospital today after suffering an ectopic pregnancy.

So the one glaringly obvious sign that was not all well with my pregnancy was finding out I was pregnant a week after finishing a very normal period, with the clear blue reading 3+. I was scanned with a hcg level of 7000 which means my pregnancy should have been clear on a scan and there was no sign.
I had another appointment for bloods two days later and it was 10000, which meant that yes the pregnancy was progressing, but it wasn't fast enough. I had another scan which revealed blood in my abdomen and had emergency surgery straight away.

I was lucky that I did not lose the tube, the embryo was close enough to the womb that it was able to be 'squeezed' out and my tube was saved, very lucky considering they also discovered that my other tube was damaged (by endometriosis). They also removed two large cysts on my ovaries.

Please don't panic. While everyone is different, shooting pains don't mean ectopic. I had no pain, all the usual pregnancy symptoms, in fact the surgeon was shocked I was so well.

I hope it all turns out well for all of you xx

In the gentlest way I can possibly say it, if you have concerns that the pregnancy may be ectopic, you really must get to a hospital as soon as you can to be examined and possibly scanned. An ectopic could be life threatening to you.
