Hi everyone as a family we went to the farm today. Sister was stroking a baby lamb. We carried on chatting then she notices a sign saying do not touch if pregnant. She sanitised her hands twice round the farm and scrubbed them at the end with hot soapy water .

At the end she got upset saying she is really early stages of pregnancy and has done a test and is 4 weeks

She’s been reading up on how dangerous it is to touch a lamb. Will she be okay

I was counting how long till Christmas....thinking it was some religious reference....

There I was thinking it might be an old wives tale that if you touch a lamb while ttc, you will get pregnant. GrinGrinGrin

@JellyfishandShells

Not called Mary is she ?
Drat! Just beaten to it!

OP, she'll be fine.

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2022 14:17

It's like a mashup between the nativity and Mary had a little lamb Grin

Grantanow · 09/03/2022 14:20

I thought the post meant touching a lamb would increase the chance of pregnancy!!!

perimenofertility · 09/03/2022 14:23

Another one here who thought the lamb had some magical fertility powers!
If she washed her hands properly she’ll be fine but if she’s worried she should see a doctor to make sure.

EBearhug · 09/03/2022 14:30

She'll be fine. The risk is more for women who are working with lambs (especially lambing) when pregnant, but plenty of women will have done that before knowing they were pregnant. The risks are far better understood (and therefore mitigated against,) than they once were

Georgeskitchen · 09/03/2022 15:06

I actually wondered if whether the sign meant if you are pregnant or the sheep is pregnant 🤔 am I being daft? 😅

Susu49 · 09/03/2022 15:49

@NuffSaidSam

I thought this was going to be about a magic fertility lamb, bit disappointed it's not, but I'm sure your sister will be fine as she's washed her hands after.
Me too, I was looking forward to a completely batshit post and am quite disappointed. Grin

Congrats to your sister though op!

@Avle20 it's no problem I totally understand how she feels I was hysterical as I was also at
The zoo feeding baby goats and lambs then found out I was pregnant that afternoon
It didn't help that I was going through a bout of night sweats and dioriah as well and I was convinced I had caught toxoplasmosis and therefore my baby would be disabled or dead

The book really really really helped me
I know people use it as an example for discussing the consumption of alcohol in pregnancy but there's SO much more to the book actually

Get it for your sister it will be the best £12 you spent on her and she will feel very loved that you thought about how to help her with her understandable anxieties xxx
