Three c sections

Only on baby number two at the moment but I had an emergency c section with DC1 trying to decide what to do this baby however I really would like three children and worry if I have c section this time that wouldn't be possible, so just keen to know if anyone has had more than two sections and had any issues?

Following…I’m pregnant with number 3 and will have to have another c section. No issues have been raised so far so hopefully its ok…

I have had 3 C sections, no problems whatsoever.

I have had 6

I had complications with a couple but it turned out ok. Drs tend to recommend 3 maximum I think just to be on the safe side

I have had three sections and had no issue with the sections but I was told after the third that I should think very carefully before having any more children as my uterus was very thin.

I had a consultant appointment after my second c section and the doctor said that a third c section is fine (risks for increase but not ridiculously so) but they don’t recommend more than 3 but equally if women do go on to have more babies it is managed

I have had 3 c sections. Like the OP the first was an emergency. I opted for vbac for no 2 if she came naturally, but my bodh doesn't seem to go spontaneously into labour and I agreed a c-sections again for no 2 once I was overdue as they weren't able to induce without indications my body was ready.

Whilst pregnant with DC3 I was advised they don't recommend a 4th section usually but they can do them without usually too much bother and indeed in Brasil the consultant said they routinely do 5 or 6 because it is the preferred delivery method and big families are common (no idea if that is true).

During my 3rd section the surgeon said all my old scars had healed really well and there was nothing to stop me having a fourth if I wanted. (I don't, but it is a relief to know as my SIL was told during her third section she it would be dangerous to have a fourth as her scar was very thin and at risk of rupture).

No 3 was fine- took a little longer to close up as there were previous scars but healing etc was fine. 2 and 3 were easy recoveries but 1 (emergency after 3 days of failed induced labour and early pre eclampsia symptoms) was rough.

Good luck. I'm sure you will be fine.

You have to take cesareans and planning post cesarean pregnancies one pregnancy at a time. It depends massively on what state your scaring (internal not external) is in. Some women have five or more cesarean sections but the general advice is not to have more than 3 - used to be two with the old style sections over 20 years ago where the womb didn't heal as well.

I was told by the surgeon who did my third that any future pregnancy would carry an extremely high risk of uterine rupture and potential death or very premature delivery, so obviously a fourth pregnancy would have been a very stupid thing to do... However that was because my first emergency section wasn't done well and the second was done in a different location, meaning my uterus was a mess. I had some warning signs after both the first and second because my uterus didn't contact back as expected by my 6 week check, nor by additional check ups at 8 weeks despite exclusively breastfeeding babies who took well to it.

My third section was fine despite that, but a fourth might well have left my children without a mother.

3 sections have been absolutely fine, I'm due a 4th in July and slightly scared but midwife doesn't foresee a problem. Consultant this week so we will see what happens

Had my third c section 9 months ago. No issues whatsoever. Previous two were emergencies but third was an elective. They took their time to tidy old scar tissue and I remember the anaesthetist saying they are taking their time suturing. I wasn't told anything about not having a fourth (I don't want to). Recovery was a bit slower than previous two sections possibly due lack of exercise during pregnancy due to pelvic pain. My friend had a fourth section and she said age found the recovery tough.

For what it's worth I had an appointment with the consultant this week where we were discussing trial of vbac Vs another elective c section and I specifically asked about this as I'd like three kids. She didn't seem concerned at all and said that although risks increase with a third CS they don't increase a huge amount and they quite commonly see women going in for a 3rd CS. Definitely speak with your consultant and see what they advise but I was really worried before the appointment and came out feeling reassured! x
