I cant pee!

TMI in this post but I am really struggling and would love some help.
I am 15 weeks pregnant and for the last few weeks I have been unable to pee in the morning. Its really strange because i am always desperate for it but its like someones put a cork in me and it just wont come out. Its now taking me 25 mins on th toilet just to pee and in pain. Usually am so desperate for it that i cant get off the toilet either so just have to sit and strain in pain and agony.

I havent seen a midwife physically yet and the one who is on my notes wont respond to my text or calls for weeks. I have seen my gp though and they’ve done a urine test which was all fine so they said to just wait it out but unfortunately its getting worse.

I feel so strange, has anyone else experienced this? What could it be?

It may or may not help you, but I find Robinsons lemon barley helps me if I ever have problems.

FusciasBright21 · 08/03/2022 20:27

You need to go back to your GP

Raindrops2015 · 08/03/2022 20:30

Have you tried relaxation tricks? Even just bringing your phone in and watching Netflix. Getting up a bit earlier so you don't feel the pressure to go in a certain time frame. I used to get this when I was drinking. I had a shy bladder and I remember we had to stop the bus to go for a pee and for the life of me I couldn't go. Getting back on that bus with a full bladder for another 2 hour drive was hell. If its getting out of hand and causing you stress and pain you could look at getting prescribed catheters from your Dr.

Raindrops2015 · 08/03/2022 20:32

Few more tips. Put your feet on water, cold tiles, I think there's a massage you can do on your inner thigh that's supposed to relax your bladder. Just stop straining. You need to relax. Try watching waterfalls on YouTube and running the water tap too.

I'd call 111 or your GP for advice, this happened to me in my last pregnancy at 14 and 15 weeks and got to the point twice where I couldn't go, hours passed, I was absolutely desperate, but nothing, I ended up having a catheter in twice to drain my bladder as there was 1.2 litres in there. Had to keep it in for a week the second time it happened, the consultant thought my uterus had gotten stuck in my pelvis and as it grew it squashed my bladder and prevented me from peeing. Called urinary retention, either that or you have a UTI, best to get checked though

dumpling123 · 08/03/2022 20:39

Insist on getting this checked with GP and hospital. I had bladder retention after the birth of my baby and it took a few torturous days to get diagnosed and sorted. If you can't pass urine when you have feel the need to go then it's likely that the baby is putting pressure on your bladder causing it to temporarily freeze. Doctor/hospital will be able to organise catheter / teach you how to self catheterise to relieve the urine and pressure.
Insist on being seen and if you feel that you're not being taken seriously, raise the matter further along the chain of command - urinary retention apparently is rare enough to be missed / not considered for diagnosis but it's unnecessarily painful and upsetting. You deserve to be seen and treated for it!

dumpling123 · 08/03/2022 20:45

Also an odd piece of advice - when the sensation to wee came back for me, I could only wee standing up for a few days - but unusual sounding but it was as if sitting down added extra pressure to my bladder. Hospital gave me a great oval shaped plastic kitchen jug which I'd pop between my legs and everything flowed a bit easier - might be worth a try!
Hope it helps but seriously, self advocate and insist on getting it sorted. Women are left to suffer unnecessarily with maternity care.

BartlebyTheScrivener · 08/03/2022 20:48

Sorry to hear you are suffering in this way OP. If you feel safe to do so, try peeing into your bath on your hands and knees, the position can allow some women who have problems with emptying their bladder to fully empty.

Octopuscrazy · 08/03/2022 21:08

If you can't pee, you need to go to a&e. You could be in urinary retention and you will need a bladder scan ( usually done at bedside) and possibly a catheter to drain the urine to prevent permanent damage to the kidneys.

LapinR0se · 08/03/2022 21:11

Inability to pass urine is a medical emergency. Call your gynae or midwife team

BumbleNova · 08/03/2022 21:14

Yes ! This happened to me, both times I was pregnant. Much worse with my second. I needed a catheter.

You need to go to maternity triage. My baby was essentially blocking my bladder so I could not pee.

spacehardware · 08/03/2022 21:16

Agree with the others, try peeing in bath tub and visual / aural cues, but if they don't work quickly you need to go to A&E or even the delivery suite (might be quicker) for catheter. Urinary retention is not fun

Definitely get check but anecdotal I had the same in all my pregnancies at around 12- 14 weeks I couldn’t pee if I got up at night or first thing. I was told by my midwife it was because I have a retrograde uterus and it falls that way blocking the bladder whilst you sleep her advice was to walk up and down the stairs a few times before going to the loo and it worked, it helps shift everything into the right place. It got better after this time. Like I say get checked out to be sure but this was my experience, it was frightening in my first pregnancy but by number 4 I expected it x

thesockfairydidit · 08/03/2022 21:36

Retroverted uterus I meant above

GP

EezyOozy · 08/03/2022 22:57

This happened to me although in the last 3 days of pregnancy, so probably a bit different. I could only wee on all fours ! The baby must have moved enough for my bladder to work when my bump was hanging downwards . It was awful. I got catheterised in the end.

SickAndTiredAgain · 08/03/2022 23:01

As others have said, call your GP, but I had an issue with not being able to fully empty my bladder in my last pregnancy. The midwife gave me a tip which seemed to help get more out which was to basically bend and stretch forward (while sitting on the loo) so my hands were on the floor in front of me, bum sticking up a bit. Maybe it worked in a similar way to the PPs who had to go on all fours.

endofthelinefinally · 08/03/2022 23:18

Are you constipated OP? It is really common for the combination of the baby's head and a very full rectum to block the urethra.

Teaandcrumpets95 · 09/03/2022 08:13

Definitely get seen!

Odd but I find leaning forward on the toilet makes it easier for me to pee

Is that the heart shaped uterus? because thats what i have so perhaps thats what it is. Like yours mines always worse middle of the night and in early mornings. During the day its less problematic

I didnt think so but i have been put on iron recently which usually does tend to get me constipated. I suppose a spoon of lactulose a day wont hurt to try
