Due to previous still birth this pregancy I have been closely monitored and at 31 weeks have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and possible growth restriction. As a result my consultant has offered the choice of a induced delivery or c section at 36 weeks depending on how things progress. I really can't decide what would be best for baby at 36 weeks and would be interested to hear from anyone who has had similar experience or views on matter. Many thanks in advance

Hi, it's a difficult situation and so many things to think about. I had an emergency c section with my first as I developed HELLP syndrome in my final weeks of pregnancy. Mine was completely unplanned and an emergency so not quit the same. Next time round I had the option to have a c section due to my previous history but I wanted to try a vaginal birth which is what happened. Both completely different experiences but I loved the fact that after I'd had my normal delivery I was up and about and self sufficient and able to get stuck in ( I had a toddler at this stage too so again that was important to me to be mobile) however I also found the c section with my first great because I had a supportive husband who looked after me and baby in my first weeks when I needed it. However you have to go easy bad it's major surgery so no driving and no deep cleaning housework etc. Both babies were great tho and no issues with either delivery.

Sorry about your previous loss.

I recently had a planned c section which became semi "emergency" as baby arrived 3 weeks early. It was absolutely brilliant, calm and easy delivery, baby was very happy and no issues with breathing despite being early. There was a huge team so I felt confident both baby and I were being well looked after. Recovery was great, don't get me wrong the scar hurt a bit fir a few days but I managed on sporadic doses of paracetamol and refused the stronger pain meds. My scar looks great and healed really well.

I'd only ever deliver a baby this way.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I don't have experiences to share but have opted for an elective section with my first due in 9 weeks. I looked into both modes of birth and decided that the risks and complications of c-section seem a lot more manageable to me personally than the risks and complications of vaginal delivery. But I'm aware this isn't true for everyone.
