Hey all. I’m currently 34+3 & due to my asthma being horrific my consultant has said she’ll arrange another appt with me for a few weeks & if asthma is still as bad she wants to get me in to be induced.

I just wanted to know a little more about being induced as all I see are horror stories about ending up needing to be rushed for emergency c sec etc. now I know it’s whatever it takes for baby to get here safe & sound but I’d love to have a natural birth. How did you ladies find it ?

FTM so clueless on pretty much everything Grin

Also forgot to ask, at what stage were you induced? I’m assuming they wait til as long as poss to get nearer due date ??

I was induced at 38+3. Honestly, it was fine. The only thing I didn't like was being tethered to loads of wires and not allowed to get up and move around. DD was born 8 hours after starting the drip with only G&A.

Every birth is different and unfortunately, you can't bargain on what kind you'll get. As long as baby is delivered safely, that's all that matters.

@sayanythingelse thank you for replying.l & telling me your story! 100% agree aslong as little one is here safely that’s all that matters.

I was induced as I was 9 days overdue. Had the gel inserted at 4pm, waters broke by 8:30pm baby arrived at 2:30am, so 6 hours active labour. It was my first baby and to be honest wasn't as painful as I'd thought (only had gas and air), I purposely didn't read up on induction/birth stories as I know every birth is different and really didn't want to scare myself with what it 'could' be like

allthingssparkly · 07/03/2022 16:38

I was inducted with both my children at 40+2 & 40+7 due to reduced movements.

Good luck ⭐

*induced

I went in to be induced. When they examined me when I got there I was already 4cm dilated. They broke my waters the next morning and I went in to labour straight away. Ended up not needing more help than having my waters broken.

Induced at 37 weeks with DC1 with pre-eclampsia. All went very well. Two gels, controlled ARM, and 11.5 hours on the drip. Got a beautiful baby girl out of it. Currently being induced at 37+1 (same reason), and hoping for the same, if not shorter, sort of birth.

Induced at 41 weeks. Gel inserted 6pm, they broke my waters at 2am and had my baby 1.30pm. I had a great experience, the fact I had a midwife next to me the whole time made me feel very relaxed. Advice: if you are planning to take epidural ask as soon as possible after your waters break. Things can get very fast and painful very quick.

Thank you all :)

Induced at 39+5 due to baby measuring off the scale 😬😅 for me it took a wee while - 3 pessaries, waters broken, hormone drip. I was 39 hours in total. Had gas and air for pain relief, baby was born with no interventions, I had a very very minor graze/tear that needed a couple of dissolving stitches. Baby born at 3am and by 3pm that day we were home ❤️ I was quite nervous about it as I’d read so many horror stories but it was a really positive experience for me. If I’m lucky enough to have another child and it was advised again then I’d happily go for it 😊

Whether you are induced or go naturally, you never know what kind of birth you’ll get to be honest 😊 your best bet it to listen to the risks and benefits of it for your personal situation and make an informed decision based on that 😊 As long as baby arrives safely and Mum is fine, it really doesn’t matter how they arrive 😊

I was induced at 40+2 - was booked for 41w as no sign of baby being anywhere near ready to come on her own (also FTM) but brought forward due to signs of pre-eclampsia. Had what the midwives described as a very odd induction experience:

  • Pessary given on the Tuesday evening, was getting pains but getting nowhere in terms of dilation, midwife couldn’t even reach my cervix never mind break my waters
  • Somehow my pains changed into contractions and my waters went naturally early on Wednesday morning
  • Was still getting nowhere in terms of dilation so plan was to start the drip - even before the drip my contractions were only 2 mins apart and were really strong (even though they didn’t seem to be doing much!) - having said I didn’t want an epidural and was going to go with Pethidine, this changed my mind very quickly and I begged for the epidural
  • After the epidural was bliss, no pain just pressure, apparently the epidural normally slows the process down but I only took a couple of hours from there to go from 1.5cm to 10cm (clearly I wasn’t imagining how bad the pain was!)
  • Ended up with forceps due to baby’s heart rate dropping 5 mins into pushing, baby was nearly out as well which was frustrating! But post the epidural I didn’t care and just wanted them to do whatever was necessary. I don’t personally attribute this in any way to being induced, neither did the doctors, and I would happily have another induction

Just go in with an open mind - I really didn’t want an epidural (don’t even know why now!) going into the whole process but ended up being absolutely one million percent the right thing for me. Despite forceps and the weird contraction pattern if I was offered that exact same birth again I would take it!

Lastly, I personally didn’t feel like my trust wet pushing induction in any way, actually I felt like I had to fight to be considered for a 41w induction, so when they took me in at 40+2 I assumed it was in the best interests of me and my baby rather than being pushed by the trust. I only say this as I know a lot of people think induction is pushed on women and just wanted to flag this absolutely wasn’t my experience!

Best of luck Flowers

I was induced as overdue (42 weeks) and was not prepared! Had the pessary which I found akin to a credit card being shoved up me 😆. It goes behind your closed cervix so can be a bit painful. Nothing like putting a tampon in as NCT classes had told me!

Then the stuff which happened was quite specific to my Labour so not really relevant but in case helpful - I had back to back contractions with no real progress and had to be monitored with wires for heartbeat dipping so was stuck on the bed. They took the pessary out around midnight to reassess me in the morning. No pain relief on our induction ward, apart from paracetamol. Found my hot water bottle useful. In the morning I had my waters broken (1cm dilated so had lots of lovely gas and air) and ended up with a c-section for dropping heart rate.

I had been told that you could go home for early Labour with induction but when I got into the hospital for mine they said that people rarely meet the criteria to go home. Felt a bit annoyed about that! Might just be my trust though.

All of it was manageable apart from the worry my DD was not ok. But all was well in the end.

shannonl26 · 09/03/2022 14:59

Thank you for all your insights! Makes me feel a lot more at ease.

After my midwife appt today I’ve been told to go into hospital tomorrow as traces of protein in urine & bump measuring ahead, baby measuring bang on though at 5lb2 so just gotta get to the bottom of the protein really :)

Midwife mentioned either gestational diabetes or pre eclampsia, I’ve been suffering with severe exhaustion & headaches so explains it really!

I was induced because of preeclampsia.
Was given a few different options, rods, pessary and gel and then onto the drip if no progression.
I opted for the pessary.
This was inserted at 1.30am.
Contractions started at 7am.
Waters broke at 7.30am.
Contractions were back to back and no let up whatsoever.
Midwife didnt believe i was having contractions until i asked to be examined and i was already 5cms.
Took to delivery.
Started getting the urge to push when still in the wheelchair on the way!
In delivery pushed for a few mins and baby was born (with an episiotomy as her heart rate was low and she was coming so fast). I only had a few puffs of gas and air but had been looking forward to sampling the various pain relief options!

It was afterwards i had complications but that wasnt due to the induction so i wont go into it.

Would i have an induction like that again?
Absolutely.
Was it intense?
Yes. Very.
But it wasnt that bad at all.

Everyone is different though.
Everyone has a tale to tell. I could detail my post birth issues but that wont tell you about the induction process.
If youre induced my best advice is to trust your instinct and let your body lead you.
Only you know how you feel on the day.
Good luck!

Hi girls. I am 38+6 and I’m booked in for an induction today as I had mild covid 10 days ago and they don’t want to take the risk with the baby. I got a sweep on Friday and I’ve being having a show for 2 days now.
Is it sore to get your waters broke? I’m absolutely petrified going in for induction 🙈
