Hey ladies

Anyone recently had a baby at Royal Berkshire hospital Reading? Do they take pictures or offer shoot for newborn? Asking as my nephew had one at his hospital (not at royal berks) but this was a few yrs ago

I imagine that would have been booked by his parents with a private professional photographer, right?

I can say it's definitely not standard NHS practice to include a photoshoot :)

MrsNT · 03/03/2022 14:10

@thebirdinthecave no it wasnt a private one. They got a picture taken just before discharge so was wondering if rbh does the same

I had my little one at the rbh in January, definitely no photo shoots but they did a good job

TheBirdintheCave · 03/03/2022 14:12

Maybe just ask a midwife to take a photo before you leave :)

KateTheEighth · 03/03/2022 14:14

Presumably that's the godawful Bounty photo and "goodie bag"

PeeAche · 03/03/2022 14:19

Hey @MrsNT my local trust have this. It's a private photographer, wandering the halls of the maternity wings, looking for custom. They're expensive but I think they're popular.

I guess not all trusts have them, but it is a thing.

MrsNT · 03/03/2022 14:22

@peeache ah that might be what it was then.
@DoctorBambino did you have a vbac or csec. Any tips for a 1st timer at RBH?
@thebirdinthecave that might be a good idea Grin
@katetheeighth any freebies would do haha

@MrsNT I go in on Monday for a C-section. Happy to answer any questions you might have after that. First-timer here too but the consultant widwife I’ve had had been great

ChloeHel · 03/03/2022 15:57

I had my DD there and definitely no photographer. But the midwives are happy to take photos using your phone, mine took a picture of the placenta for me ha ha!

Encanto · 03/03/2022 16:22

Had 2 there, and had the bounty lady taking pictures when I was there in 2018.

dannydyerismydad · 03/03/2022 16:26

The RBH has had a Bounty photographer on the wards for years, but it's possible that due to covid her visits have been minimised or removed.

Unfortunately the quality of the photos can be hit and miss. They aren't professional photographers. They are there to gather your personal data and in exchange you get some photos of your baby. I was plagued with nuisance calls after they sold on my data. I would avoid.

Concestor · 03/03/2022 16:29

There's no Bounty rep on the ward at the moment, but you can get just as good photos on your own phone, without the price tag or giving away your personal data so that you can be spammed.
A midwife or maternity support worker would be happy to take some pics for you with your phone.

MrsNT · 03/03/2022 16:37

Thankyou ladies. That makes a lot of sense.

How was your experience at the hospital

2ndtry · 17/03/2022 11:55

@MrsNT we’re home safe and well thank you. We couldn’t fault the team and were really well looked after.

MrsNT · 17/03/2022 11:57

@2ndtry aww thats amazing news. Glad everything went well

Can i just ask..what did they give you which you dont need to bring in your hospital bag. Do they provide baby nappies or do we need to take our own

OP posts:
2ndtry · 17/03/2022 12:25

@MrsNT you need to take everything. We were given a woolly hat in theatre, but had to take our own nappy in with us. They have spares of everything for emergencies but expected us to have our own. I took some emergency formula as mine was a big baby. I’m glad I did, as my milk took ages to come in and he was a hungry baby! The person next to me didn’t have their own and their family were asked or bring some in for them (the hospital had provided quite a lot by this point).

MrsNT · 17/03/2022 13:10

@2ndtry do you give the nappy to midwife or nurse to put on before they hand you the baby?

OP posts:
2ndtry · 17/03/2022 15:08

@MrsNT yes you give the nappy to them as you first go into the room. When baby is born they give them a clean up, my partner cut the cord and put the nappy on, then he was placed on my chest.

slowrunningteacher · 17/03/2022 20:41

I had my DD at RBH in June 2020. There was no professional photographer or anything then, but the midwife took some good photos of DD on the scales and of us all (hubby inc) in both the theatre (emergency C-section) and back in the delivery suite afterwards. She even brushed my hair before the photos in the delivery suite!

MrsNT · 17/03/2022 21:12

@slowrunningteacher
Awww sounds like you had a lovely midwife..
