Long haul flight at 31 weeks Mexico

We booked a holiday before we found out I was pregnant to Mexico from UK, it’s a long haul flight and Iv had a bit Google and it seams fairly safe aslong as your not high risk. I haven’t been a high risk with my other pregnancies and have always given birth at term never early. Iv read about the Zika virus but that only seams dangerous in early pregnancy.

So has anyone else went somewhere really hot in late pregnancy? How was it?
How is Mexico for heavily pregnant women?
Will I need a different insurance rather than just the one I took out while booking the holiday?

I did go on holiday in my last pregnancy at 28 weeks and that was fine I didn’t need a doctors note or anything special, will I this time?
I don’t meet my midwife for another week so can’t ask for another week and I’m getting worried incase I need to change the dates or cancel it

Have you checked whether you can actually get travel insurance that will cover you including for any premature birth or pregnancy conditions such as pre-eclampsia? Even if you can it may be prohibitively expensive as you will need to declare your pre-existing condition.

I'm off the St Lucia at 29 weeks and thinking the same haha. Not a chance I'm cancelling but I hope to god it's not too stressful Grin

OP I was low risk...until I wasn't. All of a sudden at 29+5 I went in for reduced movement and because baby had measured a bit small, an emergency growth scan was organised. This showed a drop off in growth last week. I now have to have a doppler scan tomorrow to check the cord and placenta,a further growth scan next Monday and there's a chance baby could come early. This has all happened in the space of a week.

If you can get insurance you need to get it now as you won't be covered for any complications that arise before the policy is purchased.

I’m 32 weeks now not a chance I would do that flight for comfort but also too risky if you need to access the assessment unit / get check ups and I don’t think I would enjoy it. If I could reschedule I would and bring the baby at 5/6months + you can enjoy it a bit more then. If you do go be very careful what you eat.

@Nikki037297 you seem pretty set on going as you aren’t taking into consideration what everyone is saying.

I’m missing a friend’s wedding in Italy as I’ll be 31 weeks and I don’t want to take the risk of going into labour early and being stuck in an Italian hospital.

Can you not postpone until after the baby has arrived?

Currently overseas at 21w pregnant. The long haul flight was fine in business but jet lag is taking a long time to wear off & a new form of hell when pregnant.

I’m also much, much more tired than I expected to be & not finding this holiday as easy as I did pre pregnancy. I’m also fit & slim & doing spin, yoga etc.

It seems like most people I know have some kind of pregnancy scare between 30 to 40 weeks and I wouldn’t personally risk being away from reliable maternity care.

I agree. I was fit and healthy and all going fine until DS tried to put in an appearance at 30 weeks whilst on holiday in the UK and I ended up in hospital and the medics managed to stop him from coming and gave me steroids etc in case he did!
