Just looking advice as a soon to be first time mum. Is it ok to use a baby nest in a next to me crib? If not when would you use it

You’re no longer supposed to put them in the crib according to SIDS guidelines, check out the lullaby trust online. I don’t follow all their guidance to the letter (baby was in his own room and slept alone for naps well before six months for example)

But I’d be very careful with baby bedding.

The only nesty thing suitable for sleep is the Purflo sleep tight bed, the others are just for baby to lie/play/nap in next to you while you're awake.

I think the Purflo one can go inside a crib

Is it ok to use the infant pillow that prevents flathead in the next to me crib

Anything that can move inside the cot is a hazard.

SweetPeaGirl · 28/02/2022 14:05

No pillows or anything like that should go in the cot. Pillows and nests and stuff should only be used while supervised due to the risk of suffocation. NHS guidelines here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/caring-for-a-newborn/reduce-the-risk-of-sudden-infant-death-syndrome/

A pillow to prevent flat head is totally unnecessary - just do tummy time etc when awake and supervised. NHS guidance on flat heads: www.nhs.uk/conditions/plagiocephaly-brachycephaly/

NO and NO.

Have a look at the Lullaby Trust website safe sleep guidance. Baby nests and baby pillows increase the risk of SIDS.

ThymePoultice · 28/02/2022 14:18

I wouldn’t worry about flat head unless it becomes an issue.

stormy11 · 28/02/2022 14:28

Nests and pillows aren't safe for babies. There shouldn't be anything in there crib.

Crimesean · 28/02/2022 14:32

You shouldn't have anything in the baby's cot other than a fitted sheet, the baby, and either a cellular blanket (with holes in) or a baby sleeping bag of the correct size.

Pillows, nest-type things, stuffed toys, cot bumpers, duvets - all dangerous.

Cas112 · 28/02/2022 14:36

Nope, nothing in babies cot!!!!!!!

Squiff70 · 28/02/2022 14:41

Absolutely not! And no pillow either!

FelicityPike · 28/02/2022 14:48

NOTHING in the babies (flat) sleeping space except baby & a blanket, but grobags are so much safer.

Yellowsubhubabubbub · 28/02/2022 14:54

Ok so if you’re with the baby and awake , they can be quite good for snuggling up the baby for a bit
But then they get used to it. So try and not go down that road, as they’ll want it at Bedtime and of course, that’s when you’ll not be able to monitor
I had a babymoov for the day but was never happy to leave at nights as baby’s wriggle and their little heads end up out of the head bit - and
that makes their little necks sit at a funny angle.
I’d suggest a love2dream swaddle ?
They’re great and safe. Baby is all snuggled up
