Flying at 7 weeks….

Hi

I’ve just recently found out I’m pregnant and estimate myself to be just over 5 weeks (LMP was 19.01 but this was a withdrawal bleed after finishing my pill pack, not a natural one but I have nothing else to go off!) I’m phoning the midwife tomorrow for my first appt.
I booked Prague last year (rescheduled from covid) and it’s in two weeks time making me just over 7 weeks. I’m reading conflicting things about flying in the first trimester and risk of miscarriage but also reading that its perfectly safe! What do you guys think? Prague is a short flight…. I’ll of course ask the midwife but won’t have had a scan or anything by then and just wanted peoples opinion! Thank you

I flew at 5ish weeks and was absolutely fine. DS is almost 4 now! They're so small at that stage that basically nothing can hurt them

I flew from Sweden to England so only a 2ish hour flight

Hi, I flew to New York at 7 weeks pregnant and it was all fine! I’m now 18+3. I think the reason they say to avoid is because you may not feel great during the first trimester with tiredness and sickness. I think you will be fine :)

I flew to Dubai at 6 weeks with absolutely no problems! I've flown 4 times since short haul (most recent 22 weeks) and again all been fine. I don't plan to fly now, not because I am worried but because I'm saving all my hol for Mat leave and also can't be arsed with the hassle/delays/cancellations that comes with it.

I flew 11 hours in the first trimester! I think I was 7 weeks, I have never heard of this and all was fine for me 😊
I would say it’s totally fine! Just get up and move around a lot because as pregnant women we have a higher risk of blood clots.

I'll be going to Dubai when I'm 7 weeks and am also a little nervous but I also hope the trip will be a good distraction from the nerves of early pregnancy. Hope you have a great trip.

It's absolutely fine

I flew a 6 hour flight at 8 weeks. The only thing I’d say is to tell the air host/hostess when you get on, bc you’ll likely need the bathroom more frequently. Around 6-8 weeks with my first I had to pee constantly and felt very sick. Having the air staff understand meant they excused me getting up to use the toilet if they signs were on, brought me some water and so on. They were very understanding, which was great. Good luck!

What airline is this? Ours are not so giving. Signs on mean you stay in your seat no matter what and they’ll make you wet it before getting up. We did have a to do on a flight with some guy carrying on he was going to wet the west and the pilot threatened to divert ….. We are essentially long haul only for all international travel minimum of several hours. I wear high quality full incontinence pants and take spare on plane, and on occasion have had to use them. As an adult you are meant to find a solution.

I flew to Oz 9 weeks pg and was there for two weeks. You’ll be fine.

Perfectly safe as long as you feel like travelling. Fatigue, nausea and breathlessness hit me quite bad at about 6 weeks and I wouldn't have felt like travelling. Struggled just to get off the couch most of the time! You might feel totally fine as well as not everyone has symptoms. Keep snacks with you at all times to ward off the nausea as lots of people feel nauseous when hungry.

Flying doesn't increase the risk of miscarriage, it's just the risk is naturally higher in the first trimester and dealing with a miscairage while travelling would be even more stressful and unpleasant than it would be at home (not that there is much that can be done whereever you are).
