Hi. I am hoping to finally go on our 30th birthday trip to the West coast after rearranging it 4 times since 2020. I am wondering about pregnancy food guidelines in the States and if there are any important differences I should be aware of?
We’ve been before and only eat at reputable places but still want to be prepared. For example, we love Mexican (or Tex Mex) but I read to stay clear of queso blanco, queso fresco and cotija Sad.

I would be 17 weeks pregnant when we go but currently have hyperemesis so I may not even make it Envy Just want to be prepared if I can go because I am one of those people who need to look at menus before I go Blush

It's unpasteurised Mexican style cheese you need to be careful of, if it's pasteurised it should be fine. It's often made with raw milk (unpasteurised) though so check carefully. Eggs need to be cooked, and anything containing egg should be either cooked or pasteurised, their eggs aren't as safe as ours. Those are the main differences I know of, most of it is the same advice we have here.

Thanks for that @GinnyBee Smile I think I’ll just have to avoid those things because if I go to a restaurant I guess I’m not going to know if it’s pasteurised or not.

Are there any Americans here who know if McDonalds regularly clean their ice cream machines there like they do in the UK? Blush I am craving the fudge or caramel sundaes that we no longer have here in the UK but know people say to avoid some ice cream machines etc.

Remember you can eat those cheeses if they have been heated or they are made with pasteurised milk.

Unless they are soft mould ripened cheeses in which case they are ok heated
