Gifts from Family and Friends

Hello,

Our family and friends are very kindly desperate to buy us gifts for our first born. I'm currently 20 weeks and everyone is asking me what they should buy but I have no clue what else we need minus clothes and general stuff such as changing bits n bobs.

I think a few people have been disheartened that the 'big stuff' has been bought already so if people have any ideas it would be super helpful.

We've bought the pram, car seat, bedside crib, cot, all medical stuff i.e., creams, anti-colic, thermometer etc, a few items of clothing, nappy bag, bottles, breastfeeding equipment.

Maybe stuff for later on?

  • playmat
  • totter and tumble mat
  • toys appropriate for older age
  • sling or hiking backpack
  • clothes for older ages beyond newborn and first few months

We got a lot of stuff for the first few months and it's always great to have things for later on as baby gets older!

Bouncy chair. Worth their absolute weight in gold.

Baby monitor, play mat, bouncer chair. Moses basket for downstairs? A nice changing bag. DD had a myhummy which was a godsend, DS (1 month old) has now started using it so I highly recommend!

Amazon prime for a year is an absolute godsend, ditto Amazon vouchers so you can just get what you want when you want it.

Otherwise a bouncy chair, wrap sling, and my fave baby gift to give to others a Morrck blanket

Or experiences, say a course of baby swimming lessons or baby sensory classes.

We had the same issue, I bought a lot quite early on as a way to channel my anxiety into 'getting prepared' rather than worrying about what could happen.
I also wanted to buy lots second hand so was always jumping on good deals etc.
People only started asking what I needed around 34 weeks + by which point I was basically done, you can go into labour anytime really so didn't understand why people were so confused & almost put out that I'd been organised and already gotten myself sorted!
We suggested people buy cute sheets for our cot (as we'd only bought a few & figured extras would be useful), clothes in larger sizes, I found a specific wrap carrier I liked & asked a close relative to get me that.
But we had basically nothing else we 'needed' so just asked for age appropriate toys/books and tbf no one has actually gotten us anything yet (except the wrap carrier), so I think we were right to buy what we needed ourselves. Would have been a lot more stressful to wait & hope people got us things we needed & then them not materialise or have to set up/clean these things after the baby had already arrived.
I like a pp idea about baby swimming & sensory classes!

Vouchers or "luxury"-type things like Ewan the Dream Sheep (seen him recommended by a few mums on here and he's on my list!)

Bedding, nice pram & cot blankets.
