Help! I ate a medium burger 😭

I’m freaking out, my husband and I ordered some burgers from burger 1, I ordered mine well done and my husband got his medium and I accidentally took two or three bites of his burger thinking it was mine and now I’m panicking. Have I just hurt my baby. It was pink. I’m terrified, please please please if this or something similar has happened to you and your baby has turned out ok please let me know. I asked the nurse at my clinic and she and a doctor said that there is no need to test for toxoplasmosis because it’s very unlikely that I would get it by a undercooked hamburger, but how can I enjoy the rest of my pregnancy when there is a chance that my child could be unwell and it’s all my fault. I’m 25 weeks today 😭😭😭

@Thoosa

I remember in my last pregnancy absentmindedly scoffing peanut M&Ms quite a few times. And blue cheese once. No problems came of it.
Since when can’t you have peanut M&m’s?!

And blue cheese like Stilton is fine anyway. So is nearly all cheese and even Brie and Camembert you can cook it.

Hell of a lot of unnecessary anxiety around foods and pregnancy, really.

Hell of a lot

getawayfromme · 24/02/2022 07:24

You can have mcflurrys, it's nonsense. And peanuts. If you're in the UK, the NHS guidelines don't mention avoiding either.

OP, even a medium burger will be absolutely fine - it will have been heated through. The guidelines state pink meat is to be avoided but a medium burger would be heated through anyway so there is no danger/need for worry.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/02/2022 07:25

@Feather12, when I was pg with DS 14 years ago, peanuts were not advised in pregnancy, as it was thought this could reduce nut allergies in children.

This advice had changed 3 years later when I had dd.

WaitingToExhale · 24/02/2022 07:25

I went on a beer tasting tour the day before I found out I was pregnant. I also pan

Hercisback · 24/02/2022 07:26

Since when were peanut M&Ms on the banned list?

OP you need help for your anxiety. Get it now before baby is here and it takes over your life.

I also panicked but baby and pregnancy went absolutely fine! Btw I hate beer. Went on the tour for my Fil bday but it was the time I actually enjoyed it. šŸ˜‚šŸŗ
rightsideoftheroad · 24/02/2022 07:28

@Thoosa eh?

GoldiePrawn · 24/02/2022 07:28

The trouble is when a lot of these things are googled in a panic it’s going to come up with all sorts of random country’s guidelines and then probably a load of unsubstantiated rubbish to boot. Lots of pregnant women in the U.K. still think you can’t have runny eggs, for example.

gogohm · 24/02/2022 07:30

? I didn't even know you are meant to order burgers well done, i thought they came as they come! I eat my steak rare though and did so throughout pregnancy, I also ate sushi, pate, Brie and a whole host of other "bad foods" because I just made sure they weren't going to give me food poisoning (I've got to nearly 50 still having not got food poisoning)

Twixie2022 · 24/02/2022 07:30

Honestly don’t worry. I had a friend who ate loads of pate when pregnant as it was one of the only things she could stomach - her and baby were absolutely fine. A couple bites won’t of done anything. Even your doctor/nurse aren’t worried. The rules are changed so often on what you can and can’t eat.. my mum was told to drink Guinness when she had me 30 years ago for iron! Go see your GP OP as this anxiety will do more harm then good to your body. Sending Flowers xx

GoldiePrawn · 24/02/2022 07:31

I also ate deli meat and the odd rare steak in pregnancy….

I was at the seaside at 8 months pregnant and a random lady told me off for eating a Mr Whippy Angry

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 07:31

@Thoosa

What’s wrong with peanut M&Ms

delilahbucket · 24/02/2022 07:32

When I was pregnant the advice was not to have runny egg yolks. I was having a fried egg sandwich for breakfast every single morning, completely oblivious!
On the other hand I had gastroenteritis at 11 weeks and was extremely poorly. Three day hospital stay on a drip. DS is nearly 14 now and just dandy.

BuyDirt · 24/02/2022 07:34

Other women telling you they were ok because they ate undercooked meat, doesn’t really mean anything because they didn’t eat the meat you ate. But, the chances are, you’ll be fine. You’ve most likely had toxoplasmosis at some point before anyway.

Vampirethriller · 24/02/2022 07:36

I went to a Brazilian restaurant when I was pregnant and ate a huge amount of bloody rare beef. Before I found out I was pregnant, I drank a bottle of Jim Beam and smoked 20 Mayfair on a night out. Baby is now 3 years old and trying to persuade me to take a picture of the dogs bum. You'll be fine!

AppleTree16 · 24/02/2022 07:40

Please can everyone read Expecting Better by Emily Oster.

To the OP: food poisoning comes in 48 hours at the most later. You are 5 days past. You are fine. Please see a professional about your anxiety.

I literally had a medium rare steak and a glass of red wine two weeks ago. Take a deep breath and relax. (I’m 20 weeks).

dementedpixie · 24/02/2022 07:41

@Shainago

I had sushi the day before I got a positive test. Felt like crap. But baby was fine!
You're allowed sushi

I second that. Great book.

@thebadlands

I think you'll be absolutely fine like the nurse said it's extremely unlikely anything has happened to the baby.

The NHS website states "infection later in pregnancy is more likely to spread to your baby, but any problems that develop are likely to be less severe

It's estimated that only 1 in 10,000 babies is born with toxoplasmosis in the UK."
I didn't know you couldn't have McFlurrys but in summer I had quite a few because well heavily pregnant and hot and my son was born absolutely fine.

It's normal to be anxious during pregnancy especially with your history but try not to worry too much.

You can have McFlurrys. They're not on the avoid list
stormy11 · 24/02/2022 07:43

I did exactly the same thing when I was 14 weeks pregnant. I ate around the edge and gave my DH the middle bit šŸ˜‚. Midwife said it'll be fine. Dd is now a happy and healthy 2 year old. Please don't worry. You might be able to find my thread on here as I freaked myself out lol.

dementedpixie · 24/02/2022 07:44

And you did used to told to avoid peanuts but I'm sure the advice changed about 18 years ago.

Iwonder08 · 24/02/2022 07:58

Medium burger will be cooked to the temperature enough to kill everything. NHS website just mentions well done because most people are uneducated and can't understand different levels of doneness
@Feather12, nothing wrong with peanuts or peanut m&ms as far as I'm aware x
There isn't. Peanut m&ms are fine
