3 kids in a 2 bed flat?

Has anyone got 3 kids in a 2 bedroom flat? I've got a 5 year ds and 1year old dd just found out I'm pregnant with baby 3 after the pill failing. Abortion isn't an option for me personally I don't disagree with them but it's just not for me. I'm not stressed about coping with 3 children or finances as dh has a good paying job and have almost everything left over from dd but I'm stressed about space Confused moving isn't an option at the moment as I'm currently being housed by the council and even though I would become entitled to a 3 bedroom I've heard the wait could be years? Private renting also isn't an option even though dh has a good paying job there's no way we afford private renting! I suppose I'm just asking if anyone has made it work and if so how? Do you feel like your children suffer due to lack of space? Thank you.

If your DH has a well paid job why have you got a council house?
Not being goady just wondering

My ds isn't my dhs I was a single mum before meeting him and was housed by the council with my son, when we got together and became serious he then was added into my tenancy agreement.

On paper for sure it will be tough. You’ll have to very disciplined with toys/unnessary items. Having lots of clutter is a big no no. What are the two bedrooms like? Is there a separate kitchen to the lounge? Eg can the lounge act as a bedroom.

Based on your above message then answer is you don’t have a choice but to make us happen.

How big is the kids room - can you have a bunk bed and then a single?

The baby would be in with you and your husband for at least 6 months if not a year so I don't think it's as much of an urgent problem as you might imagine?

Once kids get a bit older you could partition the living room to have a sleeping area or give your bedroom to the oldest child, have the younger two share and sleep in the front room on a sofa bed?

There are always ways around this. I know of people renting one bed flats who have children. Sometimes it's just the way things are.

The biggest bedroom is divided at the moment with the IKEA kallax units, both kids have enough space for a single bed, toy box and a wardrobe with drawers and small area to play in. My daughter is currently in the transition of going into her own section of the room.

I'm sure the council will consider you for re-housing. Three children sharing a bedroom isn't usual these days.

Apply for a bigger council house. The baby can be in with you for the first while anyway and you've already got the other bedroom split for your two kids so it's not an immediate issue.

If you're still in the flat when the time comes for baby to move out of your room then could you and your DH take the livingroom and have your Son in his own room and the two youngest share?

Practically people used to house much larger families in 2 beds!

I'm context, you're on the waiting list, in 3 years time baby will be 2 and can be in with you, eldest 2 can share until she's 10 anyway. If get to 5 years and then you'd move up the priority list.
. Look at houseswaps. Don't rule any area out.
If necessary, adults can sleep in living room..
Short term pain for long term gain!

Congrats.

Apply for a bigger property or go in to private rent like most people??

You say your DH is a good earner? So why don't you give up the council property for someone who really really needs it? I'm so confused.

But to answer your question, 3 kids in a 2 bed is doable. Kids have the bedrooms and you and your DP on a sofa bed in the sitting room at night.

I'm definitely going to have to make it work and will be applying for a bigger place when I'm eligible too, I just wanted some reassurance on making it work from you lovely ladies which I've definitely got! Think I was getting overly stressed when it's not something to be getting stressed about until the time to make it work comes! I'm blessed to even have the property I'm in now and to have the space to separate the biggest bedroom.

I can't apply for a bigger property until I'm eligible too and in regards to private renting he's a good earner in the sense that because I'm in a council properly my rent is less than £500 a month for a 3 bedroom property in my area I'm looking anywhere from £1200-£1400 a month, he's a good earner but not enough to afford that!

Why should the OP give up the council property? What an irritating attitude for people to have. Should it only be people who don't work that get council properties and everyone that works needs to pay half their wages in private rent and end up even poorer than non workers?

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant with twins. I already have a toddler. Im housed by the council in a 2 bedroom flat. My bedroom isn’t big enough to fit two moses baskets or cots. And my child’s room definitely isn’t big enough to fit all 3 in. Does anybody know if I’d be entitled to a bigger 2 bed or 3 bed property?
