Hi Everyone.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the baby having the hiccups every day?
Ive read an article that says after 28weeks its not normal for them to have them every day and can indicate a problem with the umbilical cord?
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks in Advance.

DD had hiccups everyday towards the end of my pregnancy. I was having extra scans for another issue but there was never an issue with the umbilical cord and DD is now a happy healthy 2 year old.

Not sure that’s the case. My boy had them very frequently and he suffered reflux terribly. Interestingly I follow a doctor on Facebook who specialises in reflux, hiccups in the womb usually indicate acid reflux (which a lot of babies have).

Speak to your midwife if you’re concerned but I’ve never heard it being a cause for concern and think it’s quite normal.

Thanks for your replies. Bloody Google is the worst thing ever sometimes.
I have a MW appt next week so ill just mention it.

My wonderful 16 month had hiccups all the time ar the end of pregnancy. No issues associated with it. Good luck!

ChloeHel · 21/02/2022 11:53

My DD had hiccups pretty much every other day from week 24 onwards. If you’ve read what I think you’ve read it’s an American article. I spoke to my MW about it and she says it’s perfectly normal. Although DD did have reflux when she was born until 4 months.

My dc1 had hiccups very frequently towards the end of the pregnancy, and was born with the cord so tightly around his neck that it had to be cut while he was still inside me. No reflux.

One of my subsequent dc had one bout of in-utero hiccups, and the others didn't have any hiccups. All had reflux.

Dilbertian · 21/02/2022 12:04

Dc1 is fine BTW. At uni right now.

My DD had frequent hiccups through the the third trimester! I was googling like mad but never saw anything about umbilical issues.

If you are worried, always call the midwife! Thats what they are there for.

sarahc336 · 21/02/2022 12:11

Very common and normal op xx

Maighread · 21/02/2022 12:39

I'm 36 weeks and she has them every single day, twice a day most days. I've weekly scans due to growth but she's fit and healthy. Hiccups are generally a sign of good things and that your little ones lungs are developing. x

CoalCraft · 21/02/2022 12:53

DD used to get them multiple times a day. I ended up going into labour spontaneously at 33 weeks but there's no suggestion the hiccups were related. DD continued to get hiccups very frequently after she was born, too, so it can't have been just the cord!

Caass45 · 21/02/2022 12:59

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and baby has had hiccups 2 or 3 times q day for weeks. I had read the same as you so mentioned it at my mw appointment this morning and she said it's totally fine nothing to be concerned about

Scoaf · 21/02/2022 15:48

Thank you all for your messages of reassurance. I feel alot better now. X

My baby had hiccups every day and they even had to wait for her hiccups to finish before trying the forceps 🙈 she was fine xx

Pamparam · 21/02/2022 20:34

Mine had hiccups daily and had them loads after she came out too!

Figmentofimagination · 21/02/2022 20:50

My DS had hiccups a lot when I was pregnant and it continued once he was born. He's had CMPA and reflux since birth (now nearly 5). His reflux did calm down a lot when he reached 15 months but every so often I know his reflux is bothering him as he gets hiccups.

Gamechanger2019 · 21/02/2022 21:50

Stupid question but what does it feel like when they have hiccups?

sarahc336 · 22/02/2022 06:55

It literally feels like a hiccup that we have but it's down inside your bump, like a little pop. You can often use them to tell the position of the baby, the lower you feel them suggests their head down, the higher they are can suggest their breech etc x

flylow · 22/02/2022 07:06

Mine had hiccups daily for the last 8 weeks, my bump was constantly doing little jumps.
He was absolutely fine, try not to worry.

Somerandomgirl · 22/02/2022 08:21

Where on earth did u read that!?!?!? Its completely normal , second pregnancy here and both previous and this hiccup multiple times a day

8stone13 · 22/02/2022 08:24

My DD had hiccups constantly - several attacks a day from around 25 weeks IIRC. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it can happen if they are eager to learn to breathe, they practice the motion and take in bits of amniotic fluid which causes hiccups. My DD is 9 now and has always been eager Grin

Chestofdraws · 22/02/2022 08:26

Same with mine, I was on monitoring for the last two weeks and she was constantly hiccuping.

Chestofdraws · 22/02/2022 08:27

Oh and I should say the monitoring was due to my blood pressure not concern over my baby.

TheVanguardSix · 22/02/2022 08:31

I never heard that about the umbilical cord! DC1 took the absolute piss when it came to hiccups! It's over 20 years ago and I can still remember being kept awake by him and his hiccups! Grin
I will say that of my 3, he was the 'refluxy' one.

Scoaf · 22/02/2022 08:54
