Hello everyone! I’m currently 15 weeks pregnant with my rainbow baby after 8 previous losses I want to do everything I can to help little one stick. I’ve been prescribed Clexane injections (Enoxaparin sodium) and I’m also on 150mg of aspirin a day. Does anyone else have to take this and is there any helpful tips for injecting this medication? Does it leave any scars (I’d rather be prepared if it does happen) and what does it mean for my birth plan? (Planned c section due to medical issues) TIA Smile

@MJW1999 Hello! Firstly congrats on your pregnancy and wow, what a rough journey you've had!

I too am on Clexane injections and 150 mg aspirin daily. This is also a rainbow baby for me, and will be my first. I'm 18 weeks now.

I highly recommend freezing the skin for 10 mins first otherwise it really stings. I literally shove a packet of frozen sausages down my waistband every night!!!

There should be no scaring but you may well bruise a lot (I do) but it's not painful to press on.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Grin congratulations on your little one! I’ll try to ice tonight and hopefully it helps it feels so strange when you’re intentionally putting a needle into yourself idk why I struggle with it so much Confused I’m worried I’m putting it in the wrong place I’m putting it along my belly above my hip line is that right? I was told by the hospital pharmacy the risks but not how to administer them so I’m learning day by day. I was told it could be either my belly or thigh but I don’t know how I’d do the thigh or which side it is you’d put it in. Thank you so much for the fast reply! I’m sending you loads of wishes and support for your little one and I wish you a happy healthy baby at the end of all of this.

Congratulations!
I agree with PP - I always use a little ice cube and press against the skin for a few minutes to numb it before injecting and always pull the skin out a bit before injecting. I find it can sting every so often after you remove but only for a few seconds. I’ve not had any bruising or scarring from them yet (thankfully!). I try to inject slowly and withdraw slowly and never rub or press the area after. Good luck!
I was so nervous the first time I took it but then becomes second nature!
No one ever mentioned anything to me about the impact it may have on a birth plan so I’m not sure about that one.

Clexane doesn’t leave scars but you might get some fierce bruises. I was on it until 12 weeks for IVF.

Experiment with placement, my best spot was half way between my hip bone and belly button and for some reason left side hurt less than right! Definitely ice the area first.

If you Google subcutaneous injection sites it will give you diagrams of where to place in tummy or thighs.

@MJW1999 Thanks so much and sending the same wishes to you 🤗

So, I generally do it in the same two places, left and right and I alternate the side each night.

I go by the following rule - put your thumb at your belly button with your hand stretched out and anywhere in the semi circle that you can make from left to right is fine. I find that the closer to my belly button the more it stings so I tend to stay far left or far right.

Like PP said too, inject very slowly and withdraw slowly too and don't run the area afterwards.

I've been on the injections and aspirin since 12 weeks (now 31 weeks) with my IVF baby after three loses.

I do mine in my thighs (alternate every night) they bruise much less, my stomach was black and blue from the injections. I was told to go slowly and keep the needle at a 45 degree angle. Don't rub it or it bruises even more!

One tip about the aspirin as you get further on in your pregnancy is to take it with food I.e in the middle of your meal ... the heartburn/ acid reflux it's caused me has been horrific but I'm now taking omeprazole which helps.

Thank you so much Smile I was worried I’d place them too low but I’ve googled it and the imagine seems clear. I’m going to use the thumb trick as that makes it easier to work out. I’m thinking of trying my thighs as well as they have a lot more fat on them than my belly. Thank you for the advice with the aspirin I usually take it in the morning so will just take it when I eat my breakfast but it does explain the heart burn I keep getting lol 😂

I was prescribed asprin at 12w to help prevent pre-eclampsia and was told it is more effective if you take it before bed. I used to have it with a drink and biscuit before getting into bed.
