Heavy bleed after run at 11 weeks - anyone has a similar experience?

Hi all. I’m feeling extremely anxious and wondered if anyone could offer any reassurance or experience. I’m 11 weeks pregnant - first pregnancy, aged 39.
Yesterday morning I went for a run, and at the end of it had a sudden heavy gush of red blood come out that soaked all through my trousers (well, it felt heavy, but reading descriptions may be more accurately described as ‘moderate’). Managed to get home and went to the toilet, where more blood came out and what felt like maybe a clot (but didn’t fish around to see what it was). No pain or cramps, although I now feel slightly tender when I move around a lot.
Went to A&E, who said it may or may not be a miscarriage. They referred me for a scan but it’s not until tomorrow.
The bleeding stopped within a few minutes and for the rest of the day, just had some slightly brown residue when I wiped.
This morning I went to the loo and when I pushed to do a poo (sorry tmi!) a bit of fresh blood went on the tissue. But this quickly dried up and only faint residue since
The run wasn’t particularly strenuous but I feel dreadful thinking I may have caused a miscarriage. I’m trying to hold out some hope but the waiting is terrible.
Has anyone has a similar experience? Thank you

Hi OP,

I had a bleed at exactly 11 weeks which was a sudden gush of blood with 2 clots but also had no pain. Feared the worst even though I had no cramps because of how much came out. However I had a scan 2 days later (I just had brown blood coming out in bits by now) and there was a baby still there bouncing about everywhere! She couldn't even see where the bleed came from but suspects my cervix got irritated somehow and what seemed like a lot of blood probably wasn't so fingers crossed for you!

IF you have miscarried your run didn't cause it!!! You could have had a missed miscarriage and the run prompted it to be unmissed (for lack of better words!) and if that's the case there is nothing you could have done differently.

At least you don't have to wait long and 11 weeks is enough to get a definite answer with a scan.

If you want reassurance there are loads of posts on here where people account their heavy bleeding during first trimester.

Hi,

I had a heavy bleed at 11 weeks while at work. My cervix was found to still be closed and a scan showed baby was fine. (he's 4.5 now) apparently it was a sub chorionic haematoma. I think quite a few women have them, but it isn't talked about much.

Thanks so much for the reassuring replies. I desperately hope it’s a similar case to your experiences, and I’m keeping everything crossed that everything will be ok.

Both pregnancies I had a sudden heavy seeming bleed around 12/13 week mark - like you describe they didn't last long at all. So scary both times, but both times baby was fine and no real cause was found, although I think there was a suggestion it could be something to do with placenta development? Anyway those babies are now 14 & 10!

Hope all is well with your scan tomorrow Flowers

Whatever happens, your run would have had absolutely nothing to do with it. Either very sadly the pregnancy was not genetically viable and had ended some time before your run and there is nothing you ever could have done to change the outcome, or it was a bleed which was worrying but not a miscarriage.

Fingers crossed for your scan.

Same happened to me with my first pregnancy, DS is now a teenager.
I bled on and off right through my second pregnancy and had lots of Anti D injections. That turned out to be a polyp.

Just adding an update in case anyone going through a similar experience reads this.
Went for the scan today and had the wonderful news that all was well.
Baby was moving around and they couldn’t see any problems.
The only reason they thought might have caused the bleed was that the placenta is sitting low.
They advised I avoid strenuous exercise and stick to walking.
We just feel so relieved! When the bleed happened I really thought it must be all over. And now am over the moon.
Thank you all for your kind and reassuring comments.

Glad you and babe are ok,I lost some of the placenta with my 1st similarly after aerobics class which I didn't even do properly and stopped all exercise except going for walks and it was fine- don't be tempted to exercise
