Heterotopic pregnancy... anyone?

Hey.
I had my second scan yesterday and have a lovely little bean in the right place with a good heart beat.
They've also found what they think is another gestational sac in one of my tubes. Smaller than the 7 weeker in my uterus so for now I'm being monitored and scanned to keep an eye on it.
Worst case it gets bigger and they need to remove my tube.
Best case it shrinks by itself and is reabsorbed.

I am absolutely baffled - 8 hours in 2 hospitals yesterday and I'm no closer to any information!

They believe if they take the tube the uterine baby will be fine which is a blessing as its taken 4 years to get here.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Long shot I know. Apparently 1 in 30,000.

Less positive scenario to you but I did have a heterotopic pregnancy in 2020. However mine was only discovered after it was first found at 7 weeks that I had had a missed miscarriage. During medical management of that, a mass was found in my tube which was first believed to be a ruptured cyst. It wasn't until 5 weeks later that it was finally realised to be a twin ectopic and I had to undergo emergency surgery to remove the tube.

As you say, heterotopic pregnancy is really rare so there's not a lot of information available about it. When I was researching online, I did find stories where people had had the tube removed and the baby in the womb was unaffected. Hopefully you will have the same positive outcome too. I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with my rainbow baby so, even if you do lose a tube, it doesn't mean no chance of future conception either.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help as my situation was different to yours, I just didn't want your post to go unanswered.

I appreciate the reply thank you

Sorry for your loss & congratulations on your Rainbow baby 💜

Iv had a pregnancy on an unknown location. They never found it. But I believe was in my left tube. I left it and within 10 days of it being discovered I began spotting and having such an ache on my left side then the bleeding changed to more of a slime and very red and my hcg dropped at this point. I wasn’t pregnant with another baby at the time. But I was given the options of them going in key hole and removing it once found. A chemo injection to dissolve the pregnancy (you couldn’t have this as you have another baby in there) or wait and see. I opted for the wait and see and trusted my body would sort it out and it did, they said it would absorb it like a bruise.
Sorry your going through this and I hope you don’t need your tube removed

Pepperlypue · 23/02/2022 08:43

Thank you @nikki037297 I appreciate the message!

They're hoping it's shrunk (I go back today) and my body is starting to reabsorb it. If not, it's more waiting or a possible tube removal. I hope they don't have to as well, but as long as baby in the right place is unharmed I'm not too worried about my tube.
It's taken 4 years to get here and just knew it wouldn't be easy!

@Pepperlypue I hope everything went okay for you today

LividLaVidaLoca · 23/02/2022 16:58

Hi. Sorry to hear you’re going through this.

I had a ruptured IVF heterotopic in 2018. It was missed despite many scans and I was lucky to survive the rupture because I was already in hospital as a PP said, for treatment of the mc of the uterine baby.

Knowledge is power in this case and you have hopefully everything in your favour. There’s a FB group for heterotopics and plenty of women on there have a successful pregnancy of the uterine twin.

After my tube loss I went on to have a natural miracle baby.

Best wishes.

Pepperlypue · 23/02/2022 17:52

Hi @LividLaVidaLoca ! Apparently we're extra rare.

I've had another scan today and baby in womb is doing great, they can't see anything in the sac in my tube but it is growing so they kept me in for surgery. Was meant to go down 3 hours ago but I've now had another consultant basically give me the choice of if I want surgery or a wait and watch plan.
I don't feel qualified to make this decision so I'm quietly freaking out to be honest.

Thank you for the fb group recommendations I appreciate that as it feels very lonely!

Congratulations on your miracle baby ❤

Updating this for anyone who comes across it in the future with all the googling we do!

I went for a scan yesterday at 8+4 to be told baby in utero had died 4 days previously.
My tube is bleeding but hasn't ruptured so they're having to keep an eye on that. I have to go back on Friday as I don't have a choice in the treatment, I have to have medical management as they're hoping this will sort my tube out too.

This is the furthest we've ever got in a pregnancy, on progesterone and Aspirin. This is our 3rd miscarriage and I genuinely thought we were in the clear after seeing a heartbeat, I was so wrong.
It all feels very surreal & 4 years ttc just feels unfair.
They cannot give me a reason as to why it happened just "these things happen in early pregnancy".
I know they see things like this often, but it doesn't mean it's any less harrowing for the patient.
Sorry for the ramble.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Pepperly.

@Pepperlypue OP, I’m so sorry that this happened to you. I was reading through this thread hoping for a positive outcome. Sending you love and strength x

Just seen this thread. So sorry to hear your news @Pepperlypue, it's so unfair.

Are you under the care of the recurrent miscarriage clinic? I had two MCs in a row and ended up getting a private online appointment at Nova Fertility and the doctor prescribed me clexane, steroids, progesterone, aspirin and high dose folic acid. It worked and I now have a 2 week old baby sleeping on me as I type.

Thinking of you 💐

Pepperlypue · 02/03/2022 20:55

Thank you everyone.

@DappledOliveGroves I am under the care of the miscarriage clinic at our hospital yes, but all they've done is put me on 150mg Aspirin.
My private consultant had me on 800mg progesterone too.
Which steroids were you on? I'm going to have a look at the clinic you were under & also suggest all of this to my consultant and the miscarriage clinic when all this hell is over.
Congratulations on your new baby ❤

It truly is so unfair. I'm struggling to process it all to be honest and for a moment I did suggest to my husband that I'm not sure I could do this again. However we've decided to discuss that once it's all over & I've had time to grieve.
Thank you for the advice xx

@Pepperlypue - I was prescribed 20mg of Prednisolone a day from BFP until I reached 12 weeks. I found that the consultant was willing to basically throw the kitchen sink at me in terms of medication. I have no idea how much the 2 MCs in a row were just bad luck and whether the the pregnancy would have been fine regardless, or how much the medication made a difference, but I felt at least I was doing something. I also started taking all the recommended supplements in 'It Starts With the Egg' as well as consulting a nutritionist and trying to improve my diet whilst TTC.

Wishing you all the luck and best wishes. Do PM me if you have any specific questions about Nova.
