Depends I had a themed one, since having a friend who lost a baby at full term I’m not now a massive fan but it was a case of PFB so I did one.

Mine cost around 500 but I had cake costumes, Food, drinks over 100 guests.

I think being that I felt I’d never get married as not with the dad (foolish as obviously I could meet someone) also it being my 30th too. Big bash!

I think average depends on budget ect.
My friends having one, she’s including 3 course meal ect it will be very instagram. It all depends on taste and what you can afford how many people you’re inviting, games food, drinks.

The ones I have ever attended have been at the mum to be house.

NoneOfYour32Potatoes · 13/02/2022 17:43

As much or as little as you want them to Confused

TakeYourFinalPosition · 13/02/2022 17:46

It's going to depend entirely on what you want to do...

I went to one last week that was £25 per person to go to, for an afternoon tea in a nice farm café. It was free to hire as more than 20 people went, so the only real costs for the organisers were balloons/decorations, and covering a few drinks that people had in addition to what was included in the £25 fee (a bottle of wine and a few cups of tea, I think). Someone else made the quizzes so there was no cost there other than time and printing.

Some people do them at their own home, so that'd be cheap too, with the exception of games/food. Some people go all out with hiring somewhere, three course meals etc, and that'd cost more.

@TakeYourFinalPosition

I've never heard of having to pay to attend! That's outrageous!

Kitkat151 · 13/02/2022 17:53

I’ve never been to one and never will....not my cup of tea..l.i think my nieces cost 300 quid....the grannies to be split the cost

Flowerbug1994 · 13/02/2022 19:38

I think it all depends on what you want. Lots of people have something small in there house. Am having mine in a function room as I’ve got a big family and a large group of friends so about 65 people. I think mine will finish up about £1000 but my mum is paying for food, and friends and my sister are paying for cake and DJ. I think you can go small as in just a sandwich at home or a big party. Whatever suits your personality and your budget

DappledThings · 13/02/2022 20:08

For me, £0. Never been to one, wouldn't ever and would have died of embarrassment if anyone had organised one for me.

But I suspect like hen dos they could be done very reasonably or ludicrously expensive.

EishetChayil · 13/02/2022 21:45

£0!

I would be too afraid of jinxing the baby by celebrating it before it is born.

Do you mean it cost the hosts £25pp or that each guest was expected to pay to attend?
Totalwasteofpaper · 13/02/2022 21:49

I was going to one in Jan in our house but omicron buggered it.
It would have been something like....

Balloon arch £15
Costco sandwiches platters £50
Costco cake £10
Crisps and nuts £10
Beer and wine £100?

So under £200?

SmolCat · 13/02/2022 21:49

Would you have a celebration after?
MrsTimRiggins · 13/02/2022 21:50

Err very little by my experience!! They’re quite pleasant really, an excuse to get together with your nearest and dearest for a natter and some tea and cake before baby comes but cost-wise, it’s just sandwiches and sausage rolls (often bring a plate!) and a cake surely?
Can’t believe some cost hundreds! I’m only spending a couple hundred on my sons christening 😂

I agree with you. A tea and cake affair at home.

I would say not even sandwiches. Arrange it for 3:30/4pm and say on the invite it’s tea and cake. Get alternative drinks in for the non tea drinkers. Have it at home. No presents necessary, just a chance to get together before the baby arrives. Low key lovely chill time.
