Ok so .. did pregnancy test today and I'm pregnant! We are so happy. Now I'm trying to work my due date out. Every app goes by your last period, which is fine, but I know the exact day my baby was conceived as it's the only day we had sex since my last period. It was on 04/02/2022. I managed to find an app that goes by the date you conceived but it's telling me I'm 3 weeks pregnant. But this makes no sense to me, as I only had sex 10 days ago so I should only be 10 days pregnant? Can some one help 😢 Am I missing something

Do you know when you ovulated? Sperm can live for upto five days I think

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/02/2022 17:08

As standard, pregnancies are dated by the first day of your last period. The day you had sex is not necessarily the day you conceived. I bet any app that works on believed conception date, actually takes 2 weeks off.

Congratulations! The due date is always calculated by the first day of your last period. So if you have a 28 day cycle you are 4 weeks pregnant by the date of your first missed period. It is weird because it includes the two weeks before you ovulate but that's just the way it is! The NHS has a due date calculator on their website

I would think it will still say you’re pregnant from when should have been your period even if you know when you conceived. ALL due dates go off the date of your last period even if you know when you had sex!

cloudsandsun · 13/02/2022 17:09

I know when I ovulated and that's around the time we had sex 04/02 x

Just go by your last months period. That’s what the NHS and everyone else goes by.
You might have had sex that day, but fertilisation ans. implantation can take a number of days - so you can’t get it exact yourself.
It’s not an exact science (unless your a microbiologist with access inside your uterus)

Congrats, I also got a positive test today and think I conceived on the 3rd, 4th or 5th. I’ve worked my due date out as 27th October if I went for the 4th and therefore 3 weeks 3 days pregnant.

Waddlegoose · 13/02/2022 18:06

The first two weeks of pregnancy are your period and leading upto ovulation. Once your period is due you are normally 4 weeks pregnant but I get what you means it’s odd what’s how’s it’s calculated

annlee3817 · 13/02/2022 18:26

Dating using the last period is the most accurate way a pregnancy can be dated prior to the 12 weeks scan, so a 40 week pregnancy always includes two weeks that you are not actually pregnant, and the measurements are tracked allowing for those two weeks.

LuckyWithMyLot · 13/02/2022 18:31

Just say your LMP was 14 days before ovulation.
This is what medical professionals will assume anyway.

GrowBabyGrow · 13/02/2022 20:07

@cloudsandsun and @T4Opal I really would recommend thinking of your due date as the date from your last period rather dating it from when you think conception happened. It's so much simpler and less confusing because that's what everything is worked out by throughout the pregnancy. Even when they date you at the scan, it still includes the assumed two weeks before ovulation.

T4Opal · 13/02/2022 20:27

@GrowBabyGrow
Thanks for your comment, I do agree it’s easier to just go with date of period but this is my 2nd pregnancy and I had GD first time round. With that they won’t let you go more than 6 days over the due date and I know I ovulate later than cd14 so I’d rather give myself a couple of extra days at the other end rather than have a forced induction based on an incorrect date. That’s just my reasoning.

FiftyStoriesHigh · 13/02/2022 20:29

Yeah if you know when you ovulated, that’s the date at which you were technically 2 weeks pregnant. I always use that and then just backtrack period date. In the past, I’ve gone to 40 + 2 weeks so those few days make all the difference in terms of induction etc.

SaraKitty · 13/02/2022 20:40

Yes as someone said before 4th Feb conception you would be two weeks pregnant on that day that you conceived technically . So you’re now 3 weeks and 2 days pregnant . NHS will count from first day of LMP u til your dating scan which will
Prob be closer to the date you calculate from ovulation. Congrats !
