Itching in pregnancy

Hi everyone,

I’m 36 weeks pregnant, for a few days I’ve had itching all over, specially in hands and feet and at night. Google suggested many possible reasons including obstetric cholestasis, which has me a bit nervous. I will definitely call my GP on Monday for advice but I was wondering if I’m being silly to wait and should call assessment unit today. I feel a bit bad for calling on a weekend just for itching. Do you guys think this is an urgent matter? Anybody has had the same problem?

Thank you!

That's good it's not severe, so there's no immediate rush to bring the baby urgently, though they may want to induce before your due date so be prepared for that. I'm sure your consultant will have a plan. They need to check your levels regularly to ensure they don't go high enough to be classed as severe (usually over 100). Let us know what your consultant says.

Yes definitely let us know what the Consultant says and I'm so glad that you got this checked out.

If you haven't already, now might be a good time to pack your Hospital bag Smile

@Holskey I spoke with a mutual friend that works as a registrar in maternity, he had a look at my notes and said definitely I will be induced, most likely this week. B/A is 33 so not too bad but my LFTs are quite bad. He said LFT don’t affect baby. B/A does but at the moment is okay. I’m nervously awaiting consultant call. They want a growth scan and a liver USS which is why I think induction won’t be today.
@BunnyRuddington I am very glad I asked the question here. Hospital bag all packed ☺️

Good luck with everything op. It's not fun, but lots of us were fine on the other side. I had two oc pregnancies and babies weren't affected.

@Mia237 What did the consultant say?

Mia237 · 15/02/2022 06:44

@Holskey Im getting bloods done today and seeing consultant Thursday to talk about induction most likely Monday. Didn’t have a great time yesterday as my case wasn’t flagged to consultant or reg and hospital wanted to give me appointment for 2 weeks time with no monitoring or explaining the condition in the meanwhile. Thankfully it was all resolved. I’ll have my baby next week!

I’ll have my baby next week!

Oh how exciting! Are you hitting the Raspberry Leaf Tea? Smile

Mia237 · 15/02/2022 09:14

@BunnyRuddington should I? I think I’m gonna go on walks, had an early labour scare last week maybe I can move this along 😂

No appointment or monitoring for 2 weeks would be completely unacceptable so I'm glad you got that sorted! It's good their checking your bloods again because bile acids can go up and down. But you'll meet your baby soon, how exciting! 🥰
