Nursery Furniture

Hi, I'm starting to think about nursery furniture and I'm stuck with where will be best to buy this from.

We're going for cot, wardrobe and full size chest of drawers (not fussed about a changing top on it).

We saw some sets in mamas and papas that seemed really good quality and sturdy with full size wardrobe and drawers but I'm also wondering if there are other companies that may do nice sets we can look at?

IKEA is an option but I had IKEA nursery furniture with my first son (13 years ago) and it just wasn't that robust really.

Any thoughts?

We had silver cross with my son 10 years ago, he still uses the wardrobe and I am about to use the change unit for our new addition due in May 😍

I had mamas and papas and it did not last until child number 2. Very expensive for what felt like ikea furniture really. Replaced after 4 years.

We had mamas and papas and are about to have our second and it's now 8 years old and moved 3 times!

Wardrobes are an absolute waste of money. There's virtually nothing that needs to be hung up and they're rubbish for older kids because they're very shallow and short.

I wouldn't bother getting a proper set. It'll cost you about 5 times the price of non nursery furniture and will be far less practical. It's hard to find one that doesn't come with a wardrobe, which will be wasted.

Get a cot. Whichever one you like best. Spend your money on this. Get one that converts into a toddler bed if you want your money's worth. White is the easiest colour to match to other furniture. Then buy a Malm chest of drawers and a Kallax storage unit with boxes from IKEA in a matching colour. The storage unit boxes are great for nappies, towels, blankets, sleep sacks, toys, etc which are the main things you'll have for a baby (and don't need a wardrobe). Then get those drawer organiser boxes for the drawers so you can separate vests, baby gros, socks, gloves, bibs, hats, etc easily.

Sorted.

Just get a bog standard cot with adjustable heights and option to remove sides so it will eventually turn into a toddler bed, and a normal wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Second others who say just buy the cot and perhaps a changing table. I bought boori from ebay for all of my kids. They are fab - enormous, solid af and last as cot then bed for years and years.

I managed to get M&P furniture on ana amazing end of line sale at Argos. Including cashback it worked out excellent value for money. It’s now on its third child and going strong!

Thanks for all the replies! Definitely need to go and do some in person shopping I think rather than online

Agree with “buy a cot” or “buy a cot that converts”.
We got a John Lewis cot, a set of adult drawers with internal dividers and are using built in wardrobes (we added extra removable rails)
Baby will move to double bed aged 2-3 or we will replace cot with child’s bed.

I am using the 1k saved on nursery furniture on a PT to get in shape post baby Grin
