How did your pelvic pain start?

I’m just wondering if what I am experiencing is pelvic pain. I get pain in the night and struggling to sleep as hips and buttock ache, then when I roll over to my other side the hip clicks really loud. I am also getting a nervy type pain in my lower back and buttocks. I had bad “fanny daggers” yesterday.

Does this sound like pelvic girdle pain? I’m 23 weeks. The pain has been getting progressively worse over the past 4 weeks.

This is exactly how mine started and at the same time, it seemed to get a bit better once i started experimenting with different ways to use my pregnancy pillow, but now that I'm 32 weeks its so much worse and I'm exhausted. My baby did decide to get into head engaged position from 28 weeks so i have all that added pressure down there in my pelvis

Thanks @Lauren0902 for sharing your experience. Did you go to your GP for a physio referral? I’m wondering if I should do this or, because it’s mild, just wait and see if it gets worse first.

I wouldn't wait because waiting lists are long. Either your GP or midwife can refer you or you might be able to self refer. Lots of good info on the Pelvic Partnership website.

My midwife told me to self refer as soon as the pain started which was end of November i think and i've still never heard anything back so i would definitely get a referral now if i was you. If it goes away between now and then you can always cancel - good luck OP!

Thanks guys, I’m making a self-referral today Smile

I have SPD too started feeling the pains around 14weeks. My midwife referred me to physio at 16weeks and 10days later I started physio. The pain is still there but manageable. I'm 20weeks now.

I recommend you get the pregnancy belt from amazon/eBay which helps with back pain and eases the pain on your pelvic.

Those who felt pain early what was it like? I'm nearly 17wks and am getting pain in one side of my groin. Not that noticeable in sense of shooting pain or anything more uncomfortable and noticeable when walking. Feel very achy generally. Didnt have pelvic pain last pregnancy so unsure what signs are

@CurryandSnuggle - I'm 24 weeks and am the same. I've suffered with back issues before so went to physio early. Sadly a physio massaged gave me relief for about 2 days before the pain was back to normal. I've now found an osteopath through the Pelvic Partnership and had my first appointment this week... already feeling a difference. It's expensive but if you can afford it I think it's worth it. Try to go before 28 weeks too so you can lie on your back for a bit.

Key tips I was given:

  • never cross your legs
  • spread weight evenly between both legs at all times
  • keep moving, if you're an office worker like me, regularly switch chairs and try to get a standing desk

There are loads if exercises to improve the muscles around your pelvis that you might be given. Child's pose, the clam (but don't put knees wider than hips) and pelvic tilts are the ones I find are helping, so fingers crossed they help you too while you wait to see someone. Oh and try sitting/leaning on a tennis ball to put pressure on the areas that are painful... It apparently helps to loosen any tightness.

CurryandSnuggle · 13/02/2022 08:41

@MrsTrue thank you so much for the tips, I will try those exercises 🙂 I am so sore today and the crunch my hip and pelvis made when I rolled over this morning was so loud!!! Shock I wish I could afford osteopathy!

Oh this page has some good tips for exercise and sleeping too... It's definitely worth reading through their tips. I'm trying to walk as much as possible to keep the muscles loose. It's a shame the NHS takes so long, I was just sent a leaflet via text and not even a suggestion to refer to physio from my GP, despite a long history of back pain 🙄

Yes, PGP. Talk to your midwife and get a physio referral ASAP
