Hi - I've tested yesterday (negative) and today (positive) I think I know the answer already but just need to make sure - can it be a false positive?

Congratulations!!

I believe there is no such thing as a false positive.

Happy New Year!!!

Not unless you are taking fertility drugs (I think!)

no you can't have a false positive.

You can get an evaporation line, which is very very faint and comes up more then ten minutes after the test was carried out.

So if the line appeared within the time limit, you can believe it.

May I offer congratulations?

'friends' huh?!

I'm guessing this is a very unexpected bfp?

Bigfathairyones · 01/01/2008 10:08

Erm - just a touch! I had heard of 'friends of friends' who'd had it happen to them but had put it down as 'joking'. Marie Stopes are ringing us tommorow!

ROFL - you sure it wasn't Santa now?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/01/2008 11:39

I saw maummy kissing Santa Claus

Dont want to put a dampner on anything but a friend announced her pregnancy to all as she tested positive. A couple of weeks later had to announce that in fact she wasnt preg but going through the change and the hormones had sent a false reading. She was so upset poor thing

Bigfathairyones · 01/01/2008 14:09

Nope - only one santa for me and I married him! Didn't know about the 'change' hormones - possible I suppose, although the sore boobs and slight (but increasing) nausea is suggesting otherwise! I've just done another test (negative!!!) but have one more for tommorow morning. DH was disappointed with the neg one so it's strange how quickly you can get used to an idea (or child)

Universallychallenged - but how would the menopause cause HCG levels to rise???? That's just plain weird! I can understand a late period being assumed as an indicator as pregnancy but HCG is not produced without cause.

Bigfathairyones - if it's very early you may need first morning urine to get a positive result.

UniversallyChallenged · 01/01/2008 14:25

wmmc - i dont know tbh, didnt like to question her too much.I presumed hormonal changes can read like a preg, but then i am a bit thick {smile] But it was a definite postive,

UniversallyChallenged · 01/01/2008 14:26

oops i mean not {smile]
see cant even get that right

Bigfathairyones · 01/01/2008 14:33

Thanks guys - UC - seems odd but then who knows...I'm with you on the presuming bit and I'd best get used to the 'decidedly thick' side if I am up the duff again. whomoved - yes - I'd thought that too.xx
