Pregnant with covid

Hi all,

Just wondering what experiences people have had being pregnant with covid. I’m 23 week and both my eldest son and partner now have covid. As soon as husband tested positive I moved out of the bedroom and he has stayed put. However I’m worried about what will happen if I get it. I am fully vaccinated.

Thanks xx

I just had it when I was 23 weeks. I had a headache and back pain for a few days (exactly the same as non pregnant family members) then was left with a blocked nose and completely exhausted.
In terms of illnesses I'v had far worse but never had exhaustion quite so bad, was sleeping beyond midday some days.

McHelenz · 06/02/2022 14:46

I've just had it at 37/38 weeks. I am triple vaccinated and just had extreme fatigue and cold symptoms. The only thing I needed was blood thinners due to having one risk symptom and I already had a growth scan booked for this week. Baby is active as ever.

Should add I'v had a scan after covid (routine scan, not due to covid) and baby continued growing well. You should let your midwife know, mine wasn't bothered and just advised 111 if I needed medical help.

I'm just coming out the other side of it at 40 weeks. I'm on day 9 and hoping for a negative LFT today - my lines have been fading.

Also fully vaccinated/boostered. It never progressed to more than a cold - a bit of sneezing and a slight cough and quite congested (but I always get congested with a cold - tiny sinuses!). I also lost my sense of smell briefly, but after a few days it seems to be returning. Baby perfectly happy.

Just tell your midwife if you haven't already so they can see if you have any other risk factors (like BMI, family history etc) that mean blood thinners might be needed.

Other than that just keep an eye on your breathing - obvs any severe breathlessness that you experience (more than just walking upstairs) impacts the oxygen getting to the baby, but you would have to be pretty noticeably breathless for it to get to that stage.

Keep your fluids up, rest and you'll be fine Smile

I have it now at almost 27 weeks. Spoke to midwives and have been given machine to check oxygen levels at home but nowhere near the concerning level yet. Have been checked in on a few times by COVID midwifery team and have been told I'll have an extra scan after isolation ends. Think they're treating me as third trimester even though I'm not quite there yet. Have had few headaches and a very annoying cough. Felt a bit congested this morning. Worst thing is not being able to take anything other than paracetamol. Am triple jabbed and have managed to dodge it this whole time despite working in a school every single day. You should be fine! Just speak to your midwife and they'll let you know any next steps if your trust has any further measures in place.

I’ve tested positive today at 15 weeks pregnant. I’ve had two jabs and was waiting to get out of the first trimester for my booster as I was worried about a fever (how ironic).

Luckily, I feel just headachy, blocked nose and just under the weather which I would say is worse than a cold but not as bad as the flu.

I rang my midwife this morning and they didn’t seem too bothered, just advised to take paracetamol if I get a fever and try to keep cool.
Luckily my isolation ends in time for my 16 week appointment and they give everyone a scan after covid just for reassurance/check up, which is putting my mind at ease.

Hello, I can join this happy club Hmm

I'm 34 weeks, double jabbed and boosted and on Day 2 of having a positive test but felt I had symptoms beforehand.
All ok here with no fever, just a stuffy nose and a bit sleepy. My midwife has been very relaxed as I've got no other risk factors.

Just so glad to be vaccinated, that it's happening now and not in a months time and realising that having a weekend with all plans cancelled is no bad thing.
Hope everyone stays well x

My son had covid when I was around 26wks, I’m single so assumed I’d get it as I care for him 24/7 (plus I’m not vaccinated) I never actually did get it so fingers crossed you won’t!

TataMamma · 06/02/2022 20:39

I had it at 38 weeks. Had a cough/sore throat for a few days, but nothing too awful. Hospital not concerned. At the time I'd only very recently had booster jab so was basically only double jabbed.

Laureatus · 06/02/2022 22:00

I had it at 20wks (pretty sure I got it at my last midwife appointment actually), so had to reschedule the 20wk scan etc. I'm triple jabbed, it was no worse than a bad cold/cough I've had in pre-pandemic winters. I had worse cough than my husband and son, and for 2 days felt like it might be going to my chest; it was totally manageable, but tiring and frustrating I couldn't have Lemsip etc! Hot honey and lemon did me well though. My midwife wasn't worried, and said to call them if I had pregnancy-related concerns, but for general health concerns I should call our local Covid line/usual medical assistance. I understand they are more concerned if you're in 3rd trimester.

Thanks everyone that’s really reassuring xx

Thank goodness for the vaccines. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery everyone

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 07/02/2022 11:12

I had it at 22 weeks. It was like the mildest cold I’ve had for a long time. I just had a slight headache, sore throat and stuffy nose for a few days. Fully vaccinated so assuming that is what made it so mild as my son had it much worse.

Mazzy139 · 03/03/2022 19:11

Hi, So I am just over 19 weeks pregnant and have covid. I am now on day 5 and I have felt extremely unwell. I have had all 3 jabs so fully vaccinated.
Started off with a sore throat and high temp. Then felt like I had full blown flu. As I said, I am now on day 5 and still feeling really unwell. Very breathless. I saw that some women have been given devices to check their oxygen levels. How did you get these please? I had pleurisy last year and my lungs have never been the same after that. I am quite breathless and getting worried my oxygen levels are low as I keep getting quite irritable and extremely tired (exhausted actually!) Any help or advice would be great.

Nikki037297 · 03/03/2022 19:38

I’m too fully vaccinated and I caught it last week. Was like a very heavy cold, and made my morning sickness a million times worse. But I’m good now it’s all over with.

McHelenz · 03/03/2022 19:42

@Mazzy139 I was referred to the oximeter service but never heard from them. I bought one from Amazon for less than a tenner. If your sats drop below 95 id be letting your midwife know - the concern seems to be anything below 93 requires some action.

Honey2 · 03/03/2022 19:53

@Mazzy139 I was refer to the ‘covid virtual ward’ by my midwife. They organised me an oximeter to measure blood oxygen. It doesn’t need to drop much for them to be concerned… (I had to report stats 2 x per day and anything less than 96% oxygen was considered a red flag to be checked)

I would speak to your midwife and asked to be referred if you are at all concerned xx
