Pregnancy following emergency C-section

My daughter (who doesn't really do social media) had an emergency c-section for a brow presentation three years ago, with a successful outcome for both mum and baby. She is now 20 weeks into 2nd pregnancy (all going well) and has agreed to take part in a study which is investigating evidence that a 2nd pregnancy may lead to premature labour if the 1st pregnancy resulted in an emergency c-section during the 2nd stage of labour, when the baby had to be extracted from the fully dilated cervix. Has anyone had experience of this scenario, as this is something that neither of us has heard of previously?

Yes this happened to me. I was induced, got to the point of being fully dilated but the baby was malpresented (facing sideways) so I had to have a emcs. I'm taking part in the study you mention (or one that's very similar!).

Sorry I should clarify that my first emcs has not (yet, 🤞🏻) caused any prematurity issues with my second pregnancy.

@Ajl46. Thanks for your info! I hope all continues to go well for you in this pregnancy. It must be reassuring to know you are being monitored via participation in the study.

@Ajl46 sorry - may I ask how many weeks you are? DD only learnt about this potential (albeit small) risk of late miscarriage or premature labour when she was 18 weeks. Thank you!

I had an emergency section with my first due to 'failure to progress' - I was induced and finally got to 10cm dilation but baby wasn't budging!

I had my second baby via elective section last year with no complications and didn't go into labour at all - baby was born at 39+4 as planned.

Me too! I only found out when they started scanning me as part of the study at about 18/20 weeks. I'm 34 weeks now & not had any issues so far. Best wishes to your daughter.

Didn’t happen to me, I had an emcs and my child born after I went overdue by 10 days (I was trying for a Vbac but didn’t work so was another emcs)

@YoureOnMute thank you - that's very reassuring and what DD is hoping for, ie an elective c-section a week or so before her EDD.
@Ajl46 fingers crossed for you - not long to go!
@RedCandyApple DD has been encouraged to consider a VBAC if her pregnancy continues without problem, but she's pretty sure she wants an elective c-section. One emergency c-section was more than enough!
