35 weeks pregnant and getting the worst heartburn that wakes me up. I can feel it a bit during the day but it tends to get worse overnight.

Already having 1 chewable sweet before bed but it often wakes me up with pain & feeling sick. Going to try have 2 sweets tonight to see if that helps.

Anyone else got any tips on how to sleep without it waking me up?

Get GP to prescribe omeprazole. It's safe in pregnancy and stops it completely. I can even eat spicy food again now and don't get even a touch of heartburn, I've been on it since 18 weeks pregnant

I will try and call my doctors tomorrow. Woke me up at midnight last night and was still awake over an hour later. Not helpful when still trying to work full time and feel tired 99% the time 😭

I'm also 35 weeks and am taking omeprazole, it's like magic!

Gaviscon advance much better than a little tablet! I got through pints of the stuff!,

Omeprazole is your go-to here. You'll notice a difference straight away! Also, have some milk before bed and try lying on your left side too, that way your stomach is lower than your oesophagus and the gases won't travel up causing burning

GivenchyDahhling · 03/02/2022 20:48

I used to just swig Gaviscon from the bottle. Found it more effective that the tablets. Always had a bottle next to me in bed, in my handbag etc (and at 35 weeks pregnant the odd looks on the tube didn’t bother me one bit!)

I had awful heartburn when I was pregnant too.
Apart from Gaviscon, I found having a glass of milk before bed helped a lot.
Hope you get a good nights sleep. Lot's of love x

I really dont like milk otherwise i would try that. Will see if i can get some gaviscon over the weekend.

I feel so tired that i am hoping i sleep well tonight otherwise tomorrow will be a long day at work 🙁

I also recommend omeprazole from the doctor, have been on it since quite early in my pregnancy and it was such a life saver. Like you I could barely sleep and was utterly miserable because of it.
In the meantime try gaviscon & sleeping raised up or on your left side but I know once it's there it's really unlikely to let you get any rest!
I found really cold water soothed the symptoms but only for a short period of time so sipped it to try and drag the relief out - not ideal if you're trying to sleep but at other times!

The only other thing I can recommend if it's specifically at night is to try and have a very small meal in the evening for dinner & as early as possible in the hope that it digests & settles earlier rather than waking you up during the night.
I also think that only one or 2 rennies/gaviscon tablets are really unlikely to touch this level of heartburn so would probably take more if I were you & start preventatively during the day too. See if that helps at all.
