What is recovery from a PLANNED csection really like?

I have my csection Friday morning, I'm really interested to know what your honest thoughts were with the recovery?

I know it's very different between an emergency and planned csection, mine is obviously planned 😊

I'm really nervous of the feeling of my body going numb! X

My DS was an elective c section but was delivered at 36 weeks due to complications with me.
My recovery was text book but DS spent 4 days in NICU. Back when he was born, and because I wasn’t classed as fit for discharge I stayed on the post natal ward under observation then he was moved to transition care ward where we had a midwife and care assistant permanently between 5 beds. There was only two off us on the ward at the time so it was like having a nanny each. They would do most of the cares and just hand the baby to us for feeding. We were discharged at 20days when I was totally recovered from op and DS & I were in a good routine. Also visiting was very limited in the transition unit so I had plenty of rest and time to establish breastfeeding.
By the time I got home I was ready to go shopping, go walking, cook etc.
I know that most people just want to get out but I now understand why many older women used to like the old maternity homes where you stayed for up to two weeks. It was a great way to just rest and bond with your newborn without all the stress of the world and his wife wanting to poke and prod your baby.

Gobsmacked you didn't have the steroids, OP! Absolutely right you've complained. This likely wouldn't have happened at all had you been given them. I honestly did not even think you wouldn't have had them with a planned CS in week 37! Also if you were scanned before at a growth scan, which you should have been with GD, the level of fluid should have been noticed then. And of course if there was a lot, that's another reason for steroids, it's correct that babies born via CS tend to have more 'gunk' as pps said which needs clearing.

Glad your LO is getting better, and the CS itself went well too, all the best to you both xx

Sorry I've just re-read about the 36 week scan and increased fluid. Livid for you about that consultant, it goes to show we unfortunately have to double check and query what we're told by some 'professionals'. Sorry you were unlucky with that person, OP and hope everything is going better now ❤ xx
