Anyone else had hot baths when pregnant in first trimester ?!?!

If you’re able to sit in a hot bath and be comfortable then it’s not too hot?

They don’t recommend saunas and steams and I think the temp has to be 100f plus

but baths are really soothing especially later on and water births are amazing

Is the bath leaving you red and sweating? If not- then no.

Get a bath thermometer if you are worried. They are a tenner on Amazon.

Warm baths are fine but hot baths are recommended to avoid in pregnancy. Reason being that it's dangerous for the baby to have its temperature raised. Think about it the baby can't sweat or do anything to regulate its temperature.

Here is a quote from Emma's Diary.

"Hot baths during pregnancy are best avoided because of the risk of overheating and the increased risk of dizziness and fainting. A significant rise in your core body temperature, particularly during the first 12 weeks, might interfere with your baby’s development.

HOW TO TAKE A BATH DURING PREGNANCY

As long as your bath is warm, and will not raise your core body temperature beyond 39 degrees C for more than 10 minutes, you can still enjoy some down time in the tub. In fact, relaxing in the bath can be hugely beneficial for expectant mothers easing pregnancy aches and pains."

Hope this helps.

OP try not to worry too much, I didn't find out till 13 weeks that I was pregnant and I loved my weekly warm bubble bath (I did wash more than once a week I might add😂)

As others have said, as long as you're not red as a lobster and sweating then things should be fine. If you're worried speak to your midwife for some relief xx

Thankyou everyone I have my scan next week so it will make me less worried! I haven't had a stupidly hot bath where I'm red and sweating just very warm so that's put me at ease!

Who is Emma and why have you stolen her diary?

I love really hot baths and I continued to have them but made sure they were really shallow and that my belly wasn't in the water. Before 12 weeks the baby is well insulated inside you as it's so small, so I would try not to worry.

Gamechanger2019 · 02/02/2022 20:28

Don’t worry it’ll be fine, I love hot baths so I got one of those ducks off Amazon to my mind ease

thedarkling · 02/02/2022 20:45

I had a hot bath every day for nine months with both my pregnancies. All fine. I don't like showers.

I also read that baths are fine because they lose temp very quickly, it's the the prolonged hot temps in saunas which can cause issues.

I think hot baths is another of those pregnancy myths (eg my midwife - MIDWIFE- told me not to eat prawns, utter bollocks.)

MotherOfCrocodiles · 02/02/2022 21:00

Don't panic. There is a barely-there chance of raised temp affecting development of the gut for a couple of days in week 9 I think. Even for people with high fever for days on end it's unlikely, so a bath is very unlikely indeed to have an effect. If there was any problem it would be detected on 12wk scan.

I recommend "expecting better" by Emily Oster for some perspective on what is ok in pregnancy. Most things we are told to avoid, the risk is minuscule or unproven (except drugs and smoking). Good to know so you don't beat yourself up over things you have done and cannot change.

Garman · 02/02/2022 21:27

So you had a warm bath then, not even a hot one?

JLQ1020 · 03/02/2022 09:35

Lol Emmas Diary is an app and website for new and expectelant mums. Had advice, trackers lots of free things and vouchers. It's very good.

I class my baths as hot because I like it to be just hackable to get in so I would class them as hot not warm tbh

@HCB23 I have hot baths too, need it for pain relief even before pregnancy. So long as you're not sweating you're ok. I'm 33 weeks now

Lou98 · 03/02/2022 21:53

I don't normally like baths but I've had loads this pregnancy, from when I found out at about 4 weeks. I'm 17 weeks now and currently baby is healthy!

If you're worried pick up a bath thermometer, it will be handy to have for baby coming anyway!
