I had hyperthyroid in first trimester although was told this is normal because of hcg or similar.. however four weeks postpartum and terrible high heart rate anxiety & dizziness - wondering if anyone has experienced this & if I should get tested for hyperthyroid ?

100% yes get tested !

I had over active thyroid for a while a year and a half ago, was horrid
Was on meds until Xmas where I've now come off as thyroid has been checked monthly since as we were TTC and now I'm pregnant I'm having 2 week bloods done.

My consultant said it's likely it will go iratic when baby is here x

Yes, you should get tested, its v common for the thyroid glad to get out of whack in pregnancy and for about a year after. Its not a good thing to ignore

Yes - get tested! I had this - it can get nasty if left. I got to the point where I was fainting, shaking, racing heart, and got super skinny but didn't realise what was going on.

Same here as PP. It can often be misdiagnosed as postpartum anxiety. I lost so much weight but was eating double the amount of food as normal, and my heart rate would be over 100 just lying in bed at night.

Though I did get a bit of a thrill if people were snarky about my weight loss I could tell them it was a medical issue ha!

I’m now 1.5 years since becoming unwell and it’s been well controlled with medication. It’s likely to go underactive with what I have at some point.

I had the very opposite. 6 weeks after giving birth I had put on 7 lbs more than the day I gave birth. Took ages to diagnose me with underactive thyroid. I told GP I did not feel right, constipated, tired ect. They kept trying to tell me it was PPD. I said but I am not depressed just physically ill and then they did blood test and finally saw what the problem was.

Hi sorry this is an f thread, I have exactly this and postpartum 6 months, hyperthyroid, did you find out what it was and how are you now?

I went to the doctors for a weird pain in my back that wouldn't shift and turns out I had post partum thyroiditis, so I went from hyper to hypo or the other way round, I cant remember if they gave me anything to level it out or it went back to normal by itself but I did have to keep going back for regular blood tests every few months for a while, so definitely let your dr know.

Hi! I put a referral through to my GP detailing the weight loss and racing heart rate and was referred to a consultant after a blood test. I was initially told postpartum thyroiditis, later told Graves’ disease.

Been off medication for a year, had a follow up blood test and no issues. I found as soon as the medication was right I felt fine.

It may come back but I know what I’m looking for.
