Buggies for small car - HELP!

Morning,
So I’ve been Looking for a travel system for a while now, but struggling with what will fit into the boot of my small car. I have a 10 year old Masda 2, and not really in a position to get anything bigger.
Can anyone advise on travel systems which fold down small enough to fit in a small car boot. We only have a couple of shops to go look in near me and they don’t have a great selection of prams to try.
We like The iccle bubba stomp v4 but not sure how small it folds down if anyone has this and can advise?
It’s our first baby so this is all new to us .
Thanks!

Babyzen YoYo! Will last into toddlerhood and a great investment

AluckyEllie · 02/02/2022 11:01

As above we’ve gone with the baby zen yoyo (we have a hyundai i10.) Glad to hear it’s liked because baby isn’t here yet and it looks so small next to my friends wagons! We went to an out of town natural baby shower shop and they let us try them in our car which was very useful. One of the bugaboo ones would also fit, I’ll try and find which one it was. I really do recommend going somewhere that will let you try them- even if it is a faff to get there. They showed us how to put them up and down, tips and tricks and went through car seats as well- they are super confusing! I don’t know if we got lucky but there was no hard sell and the woman in the shop really guided us through.

To be honest I reckon most of them will. I have an all terrain buggy which doesn't fold particularly small and has huge wheels, and it has fitted in my fiesta and also a Corsa. I guess the Mazda 2 has a similar boot size to these cars.

I had an out n about nipper, and a vauxhall Adam, tiny boot, the back wheels popped off and easily clicked back on which made it easier to fit in the boot. If you see one you like look for YouTube video demonstrations on that buggy, it will show what it looks like folded down

I used to get my Bugaboo Bee in my Hyundai i10.

ChickenRoseNugget · 02/02/2022 12:58

We have a tiny car and we have a Bugaboo Bee, fits perfectly in the boot! Absolutely love it 😊

Joie chrome folds quite small.

nodogz · 02/02/2022 13:22

Hyundai i20. Joules day (which is quite a big buggy) fitted in there fine if I popped one wheel off. Was no bother, never used a maclaren style buggy just the travel system.

FreestyleInTrance · 02/02/2022 13:29

Ergobaby Metro... similar to the YoYo but folds more easily, isn't quite as expensive, has a bigger basket and a leg support (good for naps).

I've used 4 pushchairs in total and this was by far the best! I wish I'd had it from the start (but it was released when my daughter was 14 months, so that wasn't a possibility!). Great for our Fiesta, great on buses, great on planes, light enough to carry it with the child in it if necessary (unexpected steps) and super comfortable to push. After a bulky travel system it was AMAZING!

poblwc · 02/02/2022 13:34

We've got an ikkle bubba stomp v3(I think).

The main reason we went for that one was because we have a vw up with a tiny boot. This was the only one we could find that wasn't £££ that fit in our boot.

It's not tiny when it folds down but it's smaller than most. We could just about Tetris it in.

Good luck!

Mrsacemay · 02/02/2022 13:44

Mamas and Papas Armadillo flip folds up fairly small.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/02/2022 13:48

We have a yo-yo2 from birth and I love it (dd is 11 months now) I was nervous as most people seem to get it as their 2nd buggy along side a more off-road type thing but it’s been amazing as our only buggy can’t fault it! And it folds so tiny! Definitely recommend!

jolota · 02/02/2022 13:55

I've got a Stokke pram that fits in the boot of my hyundai i10, detaching the seat from the frame, they both fit fine. The bassinet would have to go on the backseat but that's only up to 6 months.
I also didn't want to buy without being able to check it fitted and we wanted to aim for second hand. We struggled to find places that would let us trot the pram out to our car to test, I imagine independent baby shops would be better for this, but we felt bad using them since ultimately we planned on buying second hand.
We ended up being up front with second hand sellers on facebook and asked if we could come & check it fitted in the boot, most were fine with this but we ended up just getting the first one we went to see, since it fitted and was ridiculously cheap.

Mommabear20 · 02/02/2022 13:56

Highly recommend the baby zen yo-yo! We don't personally have one (we needed a double!) but my sister has one and it's a dream! I'll be getting one for DS once DD is reliably walking longer distances and we don't need the double anymore.

ShadowPuppets · 02/02/2022 13:58

Just a word of caution, we had a pram that would only fit in our boot by taking off one of the wheels. Not an issue in theory when you’re trying it in the Mothercare car park, but when you’ve been around the park/woods and you then have to touch a very muddy/dog poo-y wheel…. Something we should have thought about!

Caspianberg · 02/02/2022 14:03

Agree with the babyzen yo-yo

However, most cars will fit all Prams. It’s just a case of how much boot space you want to take up, and whether you want to take seat or wheels etc off. We have babyzen yo-yo in corsa as it’s handy when space needed.

We also have a mountain buggy, and that also fits in fine. Both the frame and carrycot fit in the boot fine with the wheels taken off. Now Ds is older, we use mountain buggy with main seat and just have to take one wheel off. The wheels on most are quick release and take seconds to remove.

itwasntaparty · 02/02/2022 14:15

I have a friend with twins who managed to get a bugaboo donkey + twins into a Yaris. She had to take the wheels off and rebuild every time they went out but it worked.

NannyR · 02/02/2022 14:21

I have a skoda citigo and I've managed to fit a baby jogger city mini double in the boot, so the single would easily fit. Also had an Icandy peach in there too.

JMPB · 02/02/2022 14:38

Thanks for all the replies, will have a look at those you have all mentioned!

I’ve got an Audi A1 with extremely minimal boot space. Just bought a chicco best friends travel system & it fits lovely :)

Mimba1 · 02/02/2022 22:20

One thing to be aware of with a travel system is the car seat - you can research the safety or ask the retailer if that's something you care about. Obviously they all meet a basic standard but there's a huge difference in the safety rating of some of the seats. You're looking for ADAC scores - they do a more detailed test including side impact. The babyzen seat actually has a decent score from what I can see. We accidentally bought a good seat with our travel system but if I'd realised I would've checked!

PinkandBlueMotherofTwo · 03/02/2022 06:46

I have a corsa and Silver Cross Wayfarer fits nicely (but pioneer wouldn’t - I’d need to take the wheels off)
