Hook effect! A reason not to panic those lines have gotten lighter!

So I'm nearly 8 weeks pregnant so it doesn't work as well but around 6-7 weeks if you take a test you may notice your line will be lighter which may worry you! BUT if you dilute your urine down with water and test again you may find that the line will be stronger!

This is the Hook effect, it's where your hormone gets too high that the test can't read it properly and in some cases it can cause a false negative!

On my picture the top test is dipped in normal urine and the bottom test is heavily diluted!

Or you can choose to accept you are pregnant and not cause yourself anxiety and worry by constantly testing?

@2022IamHavingYa who put 50p in you? For some people who have had losses in the past testing is used as a coping mechanism, they aren't harming you or others so what does it matter? Hmm

It doesn’t matter to me but a pregnancy test won’t give any indication into the the wellness of the fetus. At such an early gestation it’s just a painful waiting game to get to your first scan.
I am a midwife and get lots of calls from women who test often (sometimes daily) and I have to tell them all politely, to stop it as it’s bad for your mental health.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I understand why you've posted this and I do think some will find it useful, especially the photo.

However, I had very strong positive tests all throughout my MMC (and even after the miscarriage completed).
If you haven't had any cramping or bleeding, a positive pregnancy test at this stage doesn't provide any additional information.

Once a chemical pregnancy has been ruled out (at +/- 5 weeks), I don't see any benefit in continuing to test.

Hook affect is something more people probably do need to be aware of but it's always best to stop testing. It can become addictive, and expensive!

100% this. I still tested positive even after my miscarriage was completely over.
